    File Explorer Encryption Removal

    Hello all,

I am having troubles removing the file encryption from my documents folder within file explorer. It started when I was made aware that files could be encrypted within windows and so I tried to use this feature on one sub folder within documents. I was hoping for a password type system just to secure that one folder however the encryption solution did not provide me with this and was made applicable to all folders, including the main documents folder. As such, every time I copy a new file into this area, it becomes immediately encrypted. I can remove this encryption on individual files most of the time however this is less than ideal. I have tried to remove the encryption from the main documents folder by going into properties>advanced>untick encryption>apply, however when I try, I receive an error message. I have looked all over for a way to remove this however I repeatedly get the same error message. Is there a way to remove this permanently from the full folder??

Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  3. File Encryption

    Yes,

That is indeed the way to do it. Please observe the following:

    • Turning off the encryption setting does not remove encryption
    • Hard resetting your device destroys the only copy of the encryption key, and thus your access to these precious pictures.
I would suggest copying them reguraly, or you can automate this using Microsoft's MyPhone service (free).

    encrypted files

    Hi Iman,

Error message 0x80071771 means that you need to restore the file encryption key in order for you to decrypt the encrypted files. On the other hand, you can still try these steps and see if it will work:

    • Right-click the file or folder that you want to decrypt.
    • Click File ownership and click Personal.
