File Explorer is numbering MP3 files twice

I have a file of about 35 GB worth of mp3's on my computer, the list grows and changes as I buy and download new albums or remove an existing one from time to time. I copy the file to a 32 gb flash drive I use in my car and the files play like normal. However, there is now a problem where Windows puts the number of each song in front of the song title twice on my radio display. For example, in my Deep Purple album the display will read like this:

    01:01. Hush.mp3
    02:02 Smoke On The Water.mp3
    03:03 Highway Star.mp3

..and so on. When I open the flash drive and the master mp3 file here on my laptop, the songs are numbered normally, only once. It never had the double numbering problem in the car before I got the Fall Creators Update. Before the update it would just read like this both on the flash drive, the master file on my laptop and the display in the car:

    01.Hush.mp3
    02.Smoke On The Water.mp3
    03.Highway Star.mp3

I did a test on one single album and found that I can go in to each song title on the music file in Windows Explorer and rename each one by dropping the number in front of each song, and it gets rid of the double numbering problem in the car display. I would rather not have to manually do that to the over 300 albums on my flash drive.

I appreciate any help if anyone here knows how to get Windows to number each song only once.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

    :)

  2. Window Phone 8 WMA audiobook/DRM support...

Actually, some of those DRM removers will convert the file to MP3 and adjust the album and track information. Alternatively, modifying MP3 file information can be done manually using Windows file explorer. Having all the parts of an audio book in one MP3
album and adjusting the track number value will make the files play sequentially.

  3. Displaying the Comments Property for FLAC files

Is there something special about a FLAC file that prevents Windows 10 File Explorer from displaying the contents of the Comments Property?

I am using the Comments Property field to log the catalogue numbers of my digitised record collection. When I view MP3 files with File Explorer, it displays the contents of the comments field along with the title, artist, track no, etc. However, if I convert
the files to FLAC format, the properties remain except for the comments that now appear blank. But, if I convert the files back to MP3 then the comments reappear. So it seems that the Comments Property data is saved but File Explorer is unable to display it.

Do I have File Explorer installed and set up correctly?

Is there a problem with File Explorer itself?

    Any advice gratefully received.

What MP3 player are you using in your car?

I have my MP3s named the same way as you and I haven't seen the same issue with any of my MP3 players, including my Chevy's.

Thanks. It is the factory radio in my 2013 Honda Civic. I never had this problem with it before the Fall CU.

What program are you using? If you have the same files on your computer and flash drive and when you have the USB stick to mount, that can cause it to update and renumber the files.

  7. Do you see the extra "01" for all files on the USB drive, including those you copied before the FCU? Or is it only happening for files you copy after the FCU?

My guess is that Windows is somehow messing with the ID3 tags in your files. Can you open an affected folder in Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...) and post a screenshot? If there are folders that do not show the issue then also post a screenshot of that.

File Explorer is numbering MP3 files twice

I can post a screen shot tonight when I get home after work. I created some of my mp3's straight from my CD library with Itunes starting back about 3 or 4 years ago. Others I bought already in mp3 format from Amazon and MP3Million. Either way I just created album folders and copied the songs to their respective albums.

I never saw the extra numbers for each mp3 until after the Fall CU. I like the albums to be listed in alphabetical order both in the car and on my laptop but my car radio displays the albums in the order they are copied to the flash drive. If I just add new albums to the flash drive they will be at the end of the list so to keep it all in alphabetical order I have to erase the entire flash drive then re-copy the master mp3 list to it again. That was what happened when I first had this odd numbering problem. I bought a few albums last week, added them to the master list, re-copied the whole list back to my flash drive and when I played it in my car the music plays fine but Windows had re-numbered every single song on the flash drive, no matter how old the file might be.

It would be a royal pain to manually correct the number sequence of over 3500 mp3's so I hope I can find a solution. Thanks again for all the help on this.

I should add that the double numbering problem only happens with the flash drive in my car. When I mount the flash drive on my laptop all of the songs are numbered only once, just like any other normal music or document album. So I agree, Windows must be making changes to the ID3 tags somehow. I never had this problem at all before the Fall CU.

  10. What is the modified date on some of the old files? (Switch to detailed view in Explorer, you may have to right-click->Properties->Customize->Optimize this folder for: General items)

    Hi there
use mp3vtag - it might be in your tagging the sequence is correct but in your display it shows up wrong -- I had instances where I'd get 1, 10,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11, etc. !! PolarNettles also mentioned this editor.

    Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...)

BTW some cars also have blue tooth so you could simply output music from phone via blue tooth to car console. Works a treat.

    Cheers

Blue tooth in my car is not very good. The phone works ok and I can stream Pandora and Slacker Radio, can also stream mp3 files from my phone. But there is no control over streaming from the radio itself. If i want to change to the next or previous song or change albums I have to pick up the phone and use its controls instead of the ff/rew buttons on the radio. To me that is a pain and is just as unsafe as texting and driving. I won't do it. The only thing the radio will do is skip songs on Slacker. I will check out the mp3tag app asap. Thanks again.

Here is a screen shot of AC/DC Back in Black from my master mp3 folder on my laptop in MP3 Tag

Here is the same album from my flash drive

I don't see any difference at all between the two albums, but I have no idea how to really use MP3Tag. Over on the far right of the MP3Tag app it just says track 1/10, 2/10 and so on up to 10/10. But when I search the albums on my car display, it will show 01:01 Back In Black, 02:02 Hells Bells, and so on. If anyone has info on how to fix this, I appreciate the help.

    Thanks

    Jimmy

I use a iClever Himbox HB01 in our van. You get Rew/Play/FFWD/Stop/End Call. It actually works great. I use a cup holder phone holder to have it where I can plug it into a charging cord. Check with Crutchfield. They do sell the Headunis that you slip your phone in to charge and the faceplate covers. Some people are also using the Raspberry Pi for in car media.

  15. The ID3 tags look fine so it's not clear to me why your car suddenly started displaying the titles like that. Do you have another USB drive you can test? Is there a way to reset your infotainment system and force it to re-index your drive?
