April 19: Official Dell Support Statement Regarding the Bug

...The root cause has been identified as an issue being caused due to “Windows 10 display Cache issue” Microsoft is releasing a hotfix soon which should resolve the issue. We're checking internally with our engineers to see if the release is already out to share it with you. You can also check on Microsoft's website.

I just received a new MSI GL62M 7REX-1067 laptop, I did a clean install of Windows 10 when I got it. Everything is fully updated and works very well.
However, I have this lag when opening the file explorer from the taskbar. After doing research for a couple of days, I have read several people having this issue. From my understanding, it's not faulty hardware but a driver issue.

My laptop has integrated graphics and the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. If I disable the GeForce, in device manager, all the lag goes away. The GeForce does great playing and rendering video. I'm not a gamer but I tested it on a few games and it did great there also.
Has anyone else experienced this or know a fix? Thanks!

    :)

    Windows 10 lag

After installing Windows 10, I noticed lag also, especially when I played games. I ran dxdiag and saw my graphics driver was a generic Microsoft driver. I have an Nvidia graphics card, so I went to the Nvidia website, found a driver for Windows 10, installed
it, and poof, no more lag.

  5. What do you mean by lag? Explorer startup lag or overall Explorer lag?

If I open File Explorer from the taskbar, I get about a 0.5-1 second delay from clicking it.

If I use the Windows + E key, it is instant.

The lag seems to be only when starting it but this happens every-time I open File Explorer when it's fully closed.

  7. Oh, we are talking about miniscule lag here. 1s lag is normal, sometimes Explorer opens instantly, sometimes it takes seconds. It all depends on what has already been cached in memory. Explorer loads quite a lot of stuff so it can take time.

I don't think there is much to worry about.

File Explorer lag with nVidia driver in Windows 10.

The lag can just be it reading the disk if you do it again it will be cached so will be quick

I understand that, it's not a big deal but it doesn't do it with the nVidia card disabled.

That's normal, it's the same on mine. I just tried it.
A shortcut on the Desktop and a Start Screen tile are also faster.
I suspect reasons maybe having the small preview Windows on Taskbar items and having many items in the Task bar area.

To disable the Nvidia chipset, or either chipset, on an Optimus Laptop leads to some odd stuff happening. Also on that laptop there is additional MSI specific stuff as regards Display outputs which is common to both video chipsets.

Your video shows virtually no significant change.
