Windows 10: File Explorer lags

I have a new Dell laptop, 64 bit, 8 gigs running Windows 10 Pro. This machine worked fine but I downloaded a zip file. After that I found that when I clicked and dragged my cursor to select some files , it results in a good deal of lag. The object was highlighted, File Explorer paused, the next object is highlighted, the File Explorer paused again. Thus the system gets slow and I have to either restart File Explorer through Task Manager or close all File Explorer windows.

How old is your HDD?

If it is starting to fail (e.g. developing dodgy blocks/sectors) you can experience long delays when you try to access files on it.

Regardless of its age, I would suggest that you immediately backup your:

• Personal files
• Driver installers
• Program installers and keys

Hi Ruth,

I tried the above steps but i never got any corrupted file issue. However im still facing file explorer lag/slowdown. I had win 8 on my system with almost the same amount of media files but then i never faced this issue. when i updated it to win 10 my file
explorer became terribly slow. it works the first time when we open it but if you go back and come back again you wont see any folders and the green bar keeps loading. i have been lazy to even fix this for a long time now but now im desperate.
