Windows 10: File Explorer randomly crashes

For some time now, couple of months my File Explorer crashes at random times, usually every 2-3 hours.

I am running Windows 10 Pro, 64bit, Version 20H2.

Effective Way to Solve the File Explorer Crashes Issue

You can try the following steps:

1. Tap down the Windows button first to activate the search bar.
2. After that, in the search bar type control, and then click on the top-most search result, that is on Control Panel.
3. Next, in the search bar type file.
4. Now, from the search results click on File Explorer Options.
5. Then, click on the Clean button.
6. Lastly, click on Apply and then on OK.

File explorer keeps crashing in Win 10

I did the steps you wrote. All the settings were as you suggested. The File Explorer keeps crashing.

No real help in the module so our next step is to generate a crash dump and find information regarding this.

I might suggest trying to obtain a user mode dump which will give more information on the crash.

You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first.

If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as dump.reg), then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes
should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site?
