Windows 10: File Explorer shows duplicate file structures in left side display. Is this normal?

My File Explorer shows duplicate file structures. Seems odd.

I suggest 1 Set File explorer to open at ThisPC File explorer, View menu, Options [an icon on its right-hand end]: Open File explorer to: ThisPC 2 Tidy up the list of drives so they are not repeated. Once again, this is not altering any drives, only your view of them. All drives will be shown within ThisPC. Add or Remove Duplicate Drives in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - TenForumsTutorials 3 Clean up navigation pane - this might be what you described having just done. - Clear Show libraries, - Clear Show all folders, - Click on Expand to current folder to set it. 4 Close & re-open File explorer then post another screenshot of it when it opens along with your comments about what else you want to change. My comments A You will sometimes see the whole tree shown as stemming from "Desktop" & your user name but with these settings it will not happen very often [and it will never open that way]. B I do not suggest hiding Quick access. I find it very useful for getting straight to some specific folders without having to browse down to them.

You might like the Recent items, Recent folders entries or you might not. If you would like them then I'll dig out the instructions for showing them. I don't use them very often at all. Oh, the proper part is south of the Thames, Thanks for the rep, Denis

 

Finding duplicate files

Hey hey,

During the years the backups have just accumulated in random places, essentially, and I would like to clean up. Is there a program that can search for duplicate files? And by that I mean identical files. I tried dupeGuru, but that somehow found ... all files to be identical I guess? Like how a bunch of jpg's with different names, sizes and locations being marked 100% identical, or how a bunch of xls-files with completely different everything also were 100% matches with each other. I don't need any fancy functions, just a list of the files that share the name and filesize and created/last write dates.

 

What is Normal File Structure in Windows 10?

I am new to Windows 10 and have noticed what seems to be a strange file structure. A click on File Explorer generates this list:

Quick Access

Dropbox

OneDrive

This PC

WD Disk(L)

Network

Homegroup

Under WD Disk(L) there is a subfolder named WD Disk(L) and as one might expect the contents in the two folders are identical.

WD Disk(L) is an external backup disk.

Is this file structure normal with Windows 10 and if it is I will live with it.
