Windows 10: File Explorer Won't Copy or Paste

I've been trying to copy, paste and delete files on a couple of USB sticks and I've just run into problem after problem. Usually everything works fine, but today I've had some really weird things happen.


When I was trying to copy and paste files, it said I could copy and paste but when I tried to nothing ever happened. I tried doing a scan on the command prompt, clearing the system clipboard and restarting loads of times including a clean boot.


I found a temporary solution to my problem when I found that it would function if I selected smaller numbers of files. I was like: this is why zip files exist, duh. However, after a while the capacity at which I could copy got smaller and smaller until it wouldn't copy or paste or delete on one single file.


Next, I restarted my laptop to see if it just needed a refresh, but my stick was just filled with random symbols and ****. There were no errors, but everything was gone off the stick. Just random symbol files and folders. Luckily I had already saved the things I wanted.


Just wanted to know if there's a solution to the copy paste thing as I can't get it to work anymore.

Windows Explorer Copy and Paste problems

The copy/paste problem could be due to Windows Explorer issue or faulty keyboard.

Wewould like to know some information to better isolate the problem:

• Is the issue also happening when trying to copy/paste any Office files, or is it only happening in Windows Explorer?
• Have you tried other ways like; right-click + Copy, then right-click + Paste?
  
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

  Select the CD/DVD drive and hit Enter.
