File History Backup of PERSONAL.XLSB and NORMAL.DOTM errors

I want to back up my home built macros, just in case

File History claims to back up your libraries, so...
I added the two folders in APPDATA\Roaming to my Documents Library

The folders appear in the Library properties OK...
but the FH event logs say Warning
Code: Unusual condition was encountered during scanning user libraries for changes and performing backup of modified files for configuration C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config Source File History - Core EventID 202
and the folders are not available to restore

OK. I tried leaving all the default libraries as standard and added a new MyMacros library
with the same two folders in it

FH Event log now has Error 200, not warning
Code: Unable to start a backup cycle for configuration C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config
I then removed the newly created library which restored FH to health, but without my APPDATA macros

    What should I do instead?
Why does FH refuse to secure files in APPDATA?

    :)

Files skipped in Backup using File History

    Hi Sumangal,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Which device are you backing up the files to?

Normally, on the successful completion of back up, you will get the pop up saying that the backup operation completed successfully and if any file is skipped, you will be notified about it, however some files due to their length appear to be hidden. If
you try to restore the file using File History it is actually there.

I would suggest to check if the files/folders are in the Excluded folder list. You may also want to check the file history logs to view the recent events errors, the option is available under
    Advanced settings of File History.

Finally, I would suggest to restore your personal files and see if the missing files are restored from the file history. Please refer to the following article. The article is for Windows 8, but holds good for Windows 10 as well.

    Restoring files from File History

    Hope the information is helpful.

    File History restart

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

To change the backup drive for File History, the current process should be stopped. I suggest you to try the steps listed below to stop file history on an older drive and restart it on a new drive:

    Change File History backup drive:

    • Open Settings and navigate to Update & Security > Backup.
    • Click on More Options, scroll down to locate
Backup to a different drive section, and choose Stop Using Drive.
    • Plug in the new storage drive, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Backup,
      and choose Add a Drive.
    • Restart File History and configure it by referring to the article

    Hope it helps.
