Windows 10: File Sharing - How to Network Windows 10, WIndows 7 and xBox One together to share media

I have multiple Windows products in my home. An HP laptop PC that runs Windows 10 x64, an HP Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, an HP desktop PC that runs Windows 7 Home Premium x32, a custom built ASUS based gaming PC that runs Windows 10 x64, a Microsoft Lumia Windows 10 Phone and a Microsoft xBox One (NOT an xBox One S or X)


Considering the myriad of differing Windows equipment, is it possible to network them together so they can share files like photos, videos, music among the devices with one acting as a media server? I know there was "Homegroup" in Windows 7 but that doesn't exist in Windows 10 and previous versions of Windows (98, 98SE and XP anyway) shared files pretty easily, but I cannot find out where to get them all talking together in the "dumbed down-plain English" that windows 10 uses.


Can anyone help me with this. I can't find anything that details how to get Window 10 and Windows 7 friendly with one another much less throwing the xBox into the mix.

• Did you perform any Windows update recently?
• Are you connected to Domain network?

Windows File share bug (7 and vista)

Short version.

We have an internet PC in the house, which downloads into a shared folder on the network for everyone to access the files.

Since its on one of my machines, when i access the share it uses my username and i see all updated files and everythings happy.

When other people access, they either use "everyone" (vista) or "homegroup" (7) as permissions, and they only see files added BEFORE the share was created. If i download new files, i have to un-share and re-share the entire folder (which sucks) for them to see the latest files.

Someone else has had this problem, here.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? its pissing me off having to reshare the same folder every day. (FWIW, i had this issue on this machine when it was on vista, and the problem is still there on 7)

 

File sharing between Windows 7 and Windows XP

You need to set the permisions, both on the share section, and the security tab. Also, Windows 7 requires the user account has a password to access the computer from the network.
