Windows 10: File Sharing on the network

I want to share files with other specific users on our small LAN (7 PC's). Here is as far as I can get:

I navigate to the file I want to share.

Right click on the file

Select Give access to

Choose "Specific people"

In Network Access I find my own sign-on is already present and if I wanted to share with myself I am confident I could do that.

If I type in "Everyone" and click on ADD I can get to choose permissions and share the file. No Problem.

However, I want to share the file with one specific user so I need to specify a name. Where do I get a name from? Whatever I try, Windows cannot find the name I specify.

On Googling the subject, I found that if I click on the dropdown I can choose a name. There are no names to be chosen from.

All the PC's on the network are set up the same way, including not requiring a password for sharing.

So, once again, how do I specify the name of the user on the PC I am trying to share with?

Block File sharing in Wifi network, Windows 10

Hi Lori,

As per the description, I understand that you want to block file sharing on your Wi-Fi network. I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Right click on Start and select Control Panel.
• Change the view type to Large Icons.
• Click on Network and Sharing center.
• In the left navigation pane, click on Advanced sharing center.
• In the right pane, under Files and printer sharing, select the option:
  Turn off file and printer sharing.
• Restart the system and check for status.

Hi Brink great tutorial as usual.

I could not help but notice in step 1 you say to enable " Function Discovery Resource Publication "

In most of the posts I have read on Ten Forums they also suggest to enable " Function Discovery Provider Host "

Are you suggesting that Function Discovery Provider Host is not necessary.
