what the title says; I can confirm the files aren't corrupted and aren't system files. I'm transferring hundreds of gigabytes of data. I'm suffering from severe stress and anxiety, and it's very important to me that this goes smoothly the next time I attempt it. Please help. Any advice would be welcome.

    Network File Transfer vb.net

I need to use a file transfer solution in conjunction with the filesystemwatcher class on the client. The client app will need to wait until the file is done growing in size before sending(or can I send bytes as they are added to a file?)

That can be done separately. Just put in a Timer that checks the filesize periodically and once it hasn't changed for so long, then invoke FTP or File.Copy.

It doesn't matter what solution you use, you really have to wait because it is good practice to start the file transfer with the file size. That way it will be abundantly obvious on the reciving end if the transfer is incomplete/failed.

    Cable to transfer files

OMG. I have never met anyone who actually bought one of those file transfer things.

Firewire will do the same as USB, but faster, so will a cheap crossover cable. I can wlak you through the steps of moving data so you will not miss a beat.

Anything more than $10 to buy a cable is too much.

Strange 0 byte files: I'm curious what these files are that are on some of my internal HD's partitions. The file name is a random (apparently) string of characters, 'type of file: file', 'size: 0 bytes', 'owner: system'. What are these? Do I need them? 52090
  10. Incredibly slow file transfer

in Windows 10 Performance & Maintenance
Incredibly slow file transfer: It starts at around 300MB/s but after a second it drops to 20MB/s. On Windows 7 it was usually around 100MB/s. This is for transferring to second hard drive. It's even slower transferring to USB drive, about 2 MB/s. 15426
