Windows 10: FileHistory says I've never done a backup..err

The best strategy is to use both Image backups and File History Backup.

The best way to do this is to install OS + programs on C drive partition, but store data on another partition or separate drive.

Then make image backups of C Drive and hidden partitions using e.g. Macrium Reflect Free. Once a week/month is usually adequate for this (you may need to redo latest updates but this is usually quite quick). You can do daily differential backups if you like but personally I do not usually bother with this.

By keeping data separate, you can back that up at a different frequency to suit your usage pattern. It aalso prevenets the C drive growing inxorably, making image backups bigger and bigger,

Use FHB to backup to back up D drive to whatever schedule suits you e.g. hourly, daily, weekly. All depends on how much data you create. You can always do a manual backup outwith your schedule period.

 

I'll have to get with adding a partition, which is a bit scary (for me). BTW what is that extra item I mentioned?
