    Files encrypted, can't copy or access them


    A few days ago, I started having issues with my PC, apparently needed a fresh install by wiping out my drive and reinstalling windows. I managed to transfer all my files to my hard drive but now I cannot copy them back to the PC or access them, as for some reason they have now become encrypted. In particular, my pst for outlook cannot be accessed and now I am in danger of losing all my work emails. I have already tried using the security tab and taking ownership of the files (which has not helped as it still gives me an error 0x80071771), disabling inheritance (which again, has not helped) & using the windows command cipher function (which cannot decrypt the files). I have also tried un-ticking the "encrypt files" option, but this has also not helped as it claims I do not have permissions to do so. I do not have a back up of the encryption keys from my PC prior. Can someone please assist or advise on how to proceed on the matter, I would also prefer not to go to data recovery specialists as they are charging absolutely ridiculous amounts to attempt to decrypt my files (~$360/ZAR 5000 upwards).

    Yes,

    That is indeed the way to do it. Please observe the following:

    • Turning off the encryption setting does not remove encryption
    • Hard resetting your device destroys the only copy of the encryption key, and thus your access to these precious pictures.
    I would suggest copying them reguraly, or you can automate this using Microsoft's MyPhone service (free).

    Need to encrypt the DVDS for copying!!

    Hello everybody, I have a collection of DVDS and would like to continue with that. I sometimes do make copies of the original ones if I am not able to get them but the problem is that some are encrypted and couldn’t be copied. I am looking for a tool that can copy the encrypted ones and be efficient in speed and quality too.
