Unless the discount price won't last that long.

  3. Windows 8 was available for $40 for a while -- which is what I paid for it. If MS offers something similar for Win10, even with its similarities to Win8, I personally would buy it. But now, I'm seeing threads where folks are predicting that Win10 will be a free upgrade from Win8 (and maybe, Win7).

Unless the discount price won't last that long. I would get it for the discount price but install it 6 months later.

I think these guys are dreaming. I agree, They are dreaming. I don't see MS giving away Windows 10 for free. It may be a free upgrade for someone who just bought a new computer. I would buy Windows 10 for $40.00. I'm sure most of the bugs will be worked out by then. Plus I'm sure the OEM's will be updating their drivers and/or programs to be compatible with Windows 10 if necessary.

  7. If memory serves me,
    8 started out as a 19.99 u.s. Upgrade
Then went up to 39.99 as a upgrade
Then settle out as a disk full install about 120. ? offered on many sites today same as win-7
So if history repeats I would expect the same pricing but nothing in life is free *Smile
But you never know about Microsoft :/

Hmm.. I think that part of the reason is the holidays. Thanksgiving/Christmas vacations are going to leave MS(and other companies) a bit short handed so the new build is delayed as a result of that.

  12. I'm just curious .. what do you mean by annoying??

    Jeff The W8 series.
    Specifically:
    • Start Screen
    • Hidden controls
    • Invisible Hot Spots
    • Charms bar
    • Dual Control Panels
    • Metro Apps "Drag to Close"
    • Blinding Diamond White theme
    • The way MS split up the Personalize options (the ones they didn't remove entirely) and then hid them in random locations
If I created a new W8 VM I could probably list more stuff.

W8.1 set to "All Apps" & "Boot to Desktop" was slightly less annoying.

    Have a good day.

  14. No problems.
"Annoying" also varies from person to person. *Smile

IMO, a lot of the time when people say, "W8 is hard to use", they actually mean annoying.

Just to be clear, I'm not claiming that other versions of Windows were perfect.

    For example, annoyances in W7:
    • The OS ignores the "Read-only" attribute (Windows started doing this after XP)
    • The Navigation pane's uncontrollable auto-scroll
    • Apparently List view also has uncontrollable auto-scroll
    • The horrible Network Manager which can't even determine that the network is actually working
    • The extra clicks required to configure the OS, compared to XP
    • The removal of customisable toolbars in Windows Explorer (and the Up arrow)
Some of those annoyances (if not all of them) were introduced in Vista.
Many of them continue through to W10. *Sad

One overall annoyance with all versions of Windows that I have used (excluding Server) is no advanced options during installation:
    • Selecting User folder location
    • Selecting Program folder location
    • Selecting Features
    • Exporting/importing installations selections to a file (Windows Server does have this)

Fedora and OpenSUSE could do this the last time I installed them (I'm not sure about export/import).
You could customise the the install from Terminal only (no Help files) to install everything.

What I find annoying about Windows 10, is why do we need another tiled menu any way. You have the start screen which is the more optimum choice for tiles IMO.

Again they should have left it like 8.1, added a windows 7 menu and keep the windowed Metro apps. Why all this other garbage is beyond my reasoning.
