Windows 10: Find Windows 10 product key

Recently I have changed my HDD and replaced it with SSD.

Because my old Windows 10 had slowed down I decided to freshly install Windows 10 on new SSD instead of upgrading it.

So I searched Microsoft resources and found "Media creation tools" to make a USB installation media for Windows 10.



According to Microsoft's support documentation regarding activation trouble shooting I should not require activation key because my laptop comes with a OEM digital certificate.

BUT

when I installed from USB media, it asks me for a Product key !! Why ?? Where to find one??


Luckily I have preserved my old HDD installation

so my question is


Is there a way to find out the Product Key of my old installation ??


Let it be any Windows software, batch script etc, any kind of help will save me from buying a new license just for changing my HDD !


Note: Looking at My Computer > Properties does not reveal Product key any more as it used to be in older versions.


Any kind of help is appreciated !

How to Find Windows 10 Product Key

There are different ways to check your product key depending on how you obtain your Windows 10. See

If you have a new computer with preinstalled Windows 10, you can also retrieve your product key by following the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey in the command prompt.
• Press Enter.

You can also try extracting the Windows product key using the WMIC command on command prompt. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Press Windows +
   S key together to open Search.
   
2. Now type CMD and select Run as administrator.
   
3. Accept the UAC prompts.
   
4. Type in the following command and hit enter:
   wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

Since the laptop has no battery compartment wherein the product key is usually located, we recommend that you follow these steps to find your Windows product key:

• Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Enter this command: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
  and hit Enter.
