finding a driver for Wacom Graphire tablet

I have a Wacom Graphire tablet that is about 20 years old but I still use it most days. It survived the upgrade from W7 to W10 (somehow).

I have another computer that also has a Graphire tablet which does not work properly; this is a new computer that had W10 already installed.

I tried Wacom for drivers but their comment was that the hardware has been UBE'd (i.e.Overtaken By Events) and was now not worth supporting. I can see their point, even if it is a great shame.

So to the question: does anyone know of any drivers (legacy, general, generic, or whatever) that might do the job for a Graphire tablet?

Thanks for reading; it's just a shot....

    Alan

  2. Stylus settings (for Wacom Graphire)

Thank you again. Obviously Microsoft has supplied a driver which is controlling my Graphire (fortunate as Wacom no longer offers any drivers for the Graphire tablets). I would like to know how to adjust the settings for my stylus using whatever driver
Microsoft has built into Windows 10. Do you have any idea how to do that?

  3. Wacom Graphics Pad Windows 10

I also encountered this problem with my Graphire 4 (CTE-640) when I built a new Win10 PC. For now it seems that the problems were solved by this Wacom Forum thread:

    http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12822

The Wacom employee points to an installation pack "cons530-3_int.exe" (properly from Wacom's own servers, no suspicious third party links) in the download link in the seventh post of the thread. It's a bit older driver for the Bamboo tablets for Win8, but
at least for me it seems to work with my Graphire 4 in Win10. The Wacom preferences utility functions and allows me to assign keys/modifiers to the pen and the tablet buttons. Pressure sensitivity also worked in PS. As you might recall, the later drivers for
Win7 also "forgot" the old Graphire models and the packet was simply talking about Bamboo, but everything worked nonetheless. I guess the technology inside is the same.

As always, make sure to remove any old drivers and reboot before installing the new one.

You can export the drivers from the Windows 10 computer that it is operating properly on and then possibly install those drivers on the second computer through device manager. To export the drivers you will need a USB flash drive - or you can make a folder on the hard drive then burn that folder to a DVD after the drivers are exported.

Make a folder on the hard drive or USB flash drive. We'll call it Drivers for the example. Right click on start icon. Select Command Prompt (Admin). Run:

    dism /online /export-driver /destination:E:\Drivers

The path in red will be to the storage folder you created for the drivers.

On the second computer open device manager. Right click on the device you want to add the driver for. Update Driver Software. Browse my computer for driver software. In the location block, navigate to the Drivers folder you created on the flash drive or burned to DVD. Make sure subfolders is checked. Then click next.

That is great, thanks. I did not expect 83 directories, 1500 files and over a GB of data but loading the one driver I wanted on the second computer worked like a dream. Thank you.

However, I would beg to ask another question that is not, I think, directly driver related. I now find that the tablet is referred to as a 'Wacom mouse'. There is no entry under 'Control Panel' and I am unable to access any software to 'calibrate' the tablet and screen to act together. Is there a way to export/upload the support software in the same way as the drivers - I ask in hope but guess that this may well not be possible.

Thank you again for your help so far.

I am bumping this as I have made some progress - although the problem is not solved.

I have found what I think is the latest Wacom driver software (6.3.5-3). It is an exe file and it installs OK. Following a re-start, there is an entry under Control Panel for 'tablet Properties. So far so good.

When I click on Tablet Properties, though, I get the message that a tablet is not installed. OK, so I uninstall the tablet and drivers from Device Manager, unplug the tablet and re-plug. Windows then installs its own driver but still the tablet does not show up as being present - it is just shown as a 'Wacom mouse'. I am unable to update the drivers with the exe file so am at a loss as to what to do next.

I wonder if I could stop Windows installing its own drivers whether running the exe file would recognise the tablet as a tablet but I do not know how to block the Windows loading its own stuff!

Can anyone suggest a way forwards here?

    Thanks

I had the same issue with a Wacom Graphire and Windows 10 Pro x64 using that driver. The fix was to use the older, recommended Wacom driver from the web-site (v.6.05-7) which works fine (even though it's for Vista!). You can grab it from the Graphire Support page at Wacom Graphire Support

Well, it seems like magic as it downloads, installs and works just fine. Thank you Boggle much appreciated. I had many exchanges with Wacom support but did not get this; maybe it is an 'unsupported' solution.

    Whatever, it works, thanks again.
