  1. finding the reason for being disconnected from wifi network

    Hello,

I am behind a firewall known as Sophos. I use Windows 10.

I am facing some challenges in my Windows 10 I am getting frequently disconnected from my wifi .

.There are power outages in my network but apart from that why is it happening that I am not able to understand.

Upon some googling etc I came to conclusion may be power management of my USB wifi adapter could be a reason for this.

See the screenshot below. finding the reason for being disconnected from wifi network fb585163-8971-4b7a-8cd0-5bf8b1fd9e53?upload=true.jpg

So now I have disabled power management i.e. unticked allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

What else should I check because there is a maximum login limit in my network i.e. if I exceed login to a certain number of times then I am disabled to login for the day.

    See the screenshot below.

What more should I check at my end?

    :)

  2. Wifi disconnects for no reason

    Hi Pokeylee33,

There are a few approach that we can apply in getting your WiFi concern on your Windows 10 fixed. I appreciate the results in the troubleshooting that you've performed as this would be of help in getting the right steps to get you connected. Before we perform
any troubleshooting, I would like to clarify a few things first:

    • Have you tried connecting your computer to a different wireless network?
    • Are you getting the same issue when connecting your computer to your wireless network using a different user profile?
    • Are you experiencing the same issue when getting your computer connected via Ethernet cable?
    • When your WiFi gets disconnected, are you to get any error messages?

Please don't hesitate to get back in touch with me to assist you further.

    Wifi disconnects for no reason

WiFi can disconnect for many reasons, none of which have to do with Windows.

Perhaps the most common reason for inconsistent WiFi signals is right in your own house. For best results, your WiFi adapter and router should be as close as possible and with as few interfering objects as possible, e.g., walls or metal cabinets that can
    reflect the signal.

Another very common reason is interference from adjacent WiFi networks. If adjacent WiFi networks are using the same channel as your network, you (or they) can be knocked off WiFi.

You can see adjacent networks on your computer; click on the WiFi icon in the system notification area. If you recognize your neighbors, see if you can arrange with them to use different WiFi channels. If you're still on the 2.4GHz band, try switching to
    a non-overlapping channel.

If you're on the 2.4GHz band you can also get interference from other devices that operate on that band, such as baby monitors, microwave ovens, cordless phones, etc.

Less likely, but also possible, is that the manufacturer of your WiFi adapter no longer supports it on the version of Windows 10 you have (apparently 1079.) You can find out by asking the manufacturer. That happened to me: D-Link gave my WiFi adapter the
Bronx cheer so I had to replace it.

Least likely of all, I hope, is that a hacker parked outside your house has broken into your WiFi network. That could happen if your network security isn't setup to best advantage.

To check for this, open your router's administration console and see what's connected to your network. See anything you don't recognize?

WiFi not automatically disconnecting when out of range

    Gunnart,

I had a similar refusal to disconnect from a WiFi profile and I solved it.
    - In my particular case, the unwanted network was still in range so I cannot say for certain that my symptoms were exactly the same as yours but they were certainly consistent with yours.
    - The solution is not a destructive one so I do suggest you try it.

1 I turned WiFi off then repeated the fairly standard step of removing existing WiFi profiles - Settings, Networks, WiFi, Manage known networks, <select each one in turn>, Forget. Arguably, I could have just done this for the problem network but I was probably not thinking straight at the time.

2 I then opened RegEdit, went to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles
and deleted every subkey that referred to a WiFi network profile. Again, arguably, I could just have deleted all those that referred to the problem network.

3 I then turned WiFi back on and started from scratch detecting then connecting to the networks I wanted to use. There has been no repetition of the problem.

    Some further commentary
A I had changed my internet connection device but had re-used the same network name on the new one.
B There were no strange entries in the list in Settings [step 1 above] & I quite wrongly thought that forgetting them represented a complete clearout.
C When I looked the Registry key [my step 2 above], I found that there were two subkeys with the relevant network name in the Description line.
    - In one case, the same network name was repeated in the ProfileName line
    - But the other entry contained a Profilename entry that had the expected network name with a suffix [2] after it.
    - So my re-use of the name had been identified by Windows after all [I had just been trying to reduce the number of changes I had to work through when I swapped devices and had not thought there could be side-effects].

    Best of luck,
    Denis
