Windows 10: Fingerprint sensor option removed after latest windows update

I have found that after the latest Window Update, I no longer have the option of logging in to Windows 'Hello' by using the fingerprint sensor OR my windows password, but only the PIN. Since my laptop does in fact have a fingerprint sensor, I'd at least like to have the possibility of using it. At first I thought this might be due to an outdated driver (there is in fact a newer Biometric driver available, but I cannot install it), but I am convinced that this is a Windows issue. I don't want to have to do a system restore to fix it, as that is always only a temporary solution.

Log in via fingerprint

Hi,

To allow fingerprint matching, you must have devices with fingerprint sensors and software. Each type of sensor has its own set of detailed requirements that must be implemented by the
manufacturer, but all of the sensors must include anti-spoofing measures (required) and a way to configure them (optional).

For possible resolution, see the options below:

• Install the latest Windows Update.
• Go to your laptop's manufacturer website and update the driver of your fingerprint software.

then Settings

Open Accounts

Click Sign-in Options

Under "Manage how you sign in to your device "

Select "Windows Hellow FIngerprint"

If the fingerprint sign option is not there.

Install the latest "Fingerprint Sensor Driver" from the Manufacturers's site.

 

Fingerprint sensor disabled by Windows 10 update 1803

I recently installed update 1803 on my HP Windows 10 laptop. The fingerprint sensor stopped working. I don't know if was turned off or disabled or what.

Is there a way I can fix it? I found a thread about it here, but I'm not sure what they they are suggesting.
