Windows 10: Firefox Slower to Launch in Windows 10

No luck.

 

Well it's nothing to do with Firefox then I'm afraid. It must be something else causing the issue. Perhaps check your page file.

WinKey + R then type sysdm.cpl press Enter.

Advanced Tab > Performance > Settings > Advanced Tab

Virtual Memory > Change

Set to Auto Manage for all page files (if not set already)

 

Again, why would the page file have an issue specifically with firefox?

 

Well firefox writes to disk (page file) if not configured to only use RAM so fixed or small page file might just be an issue. If you don't want to check it's your call. If you know what is not the problem perhaps you could list everything that you have ruled out.

Tried that and still no results. Basilisk launches slightly faster than firefox, but not as fast as edge.
This might have something to do with windows rather than firefox itself. I noticed a slightly quicker launch when I open it from the installation folder. I also have a similar issue with file explorer. It's a little slow to lauch from the taskbar, but is fine when launched from start menu. Firefox might be a fraction quicker from the start menu too, but I can't be sure.

 

Okay I reckon that you're correct. I can't test start menu or file explorer because I use replacements for both!

I'm going to take a guess and suggest switching DNS lookup:

Reason: Lookups should be faster so in theory browsers will launch slightly faster because connections take a little less time to resolve.

Do you also happen to make use of a large HOSTS file?

Reason for asking: Edge will require DNS Client Service to be running but for other browsers there will be a slowdown if the service is enabled when using a large HOSTS file.

I don't know if anyone suggested this already but exit Firefox and launch in "Firefox Safe mode"

Press Enter.

If it's a lot faster then there must be profile/ addon issues.

I doubt if it will help since the profile I uploaded should have worked okay.

 

There's that dialog box that pops up asking if you want to start in safe mode, so I can't really say if there's a change. But I tried with add ons disabled and it was the same.

 

Tried switching the DNS. There wasn't any noticeable change. Although cloudflare and my default DNS appeared to be quicker than openDNS which was using before.
