Windows 10: Fix USB ports

Ok, so this morning I turned on my computer and plugged in my hard drive but it didn't show up. First I tried in all 3 USB ports, then I checked Disk Management. None of the ports worked and it didn't appear in Disk Management. Next I went into device manager and saw that one of the driver's had a little yellow triangle next to it. I wasn't sure what to do. I tried right-clicking and searching for updates but it said I had the latest version. Then I stupidly decided to try uninstalling and then reinstalling it. However, I forgot to take down the name before removing it. I remember it said something about 'USB' and '3.0'.

Is there anyway to reinstall the USB 3.0 thing? Also the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller didn't have the yellow triangle before.

I'm using a Dell Latitude E7450 with three USB 3.0 ports one of which is also a Powershare port.
I am running Windows 10 Pro 1909.

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

• Have you tried connecting the peripheral devices to another computer to check if they will function?
• How old is the laptop?

We also suggest you run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
in Windows 10. Here are the steps:

• Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
• Type Troubleshooting then press Enter.
• On the left side, click View all.
• Select Hardware and Devices.
• Click Next and see if it will find any problems.
