Windows 10 is trying to install updates but I keep getting error 0x80070bc9.

Windows 10 update error 0x80070bc9

Neither of these helps me. In addition to Windows update error 0x80070bc9, I also cannot turn on Windows Defender. DISM repairs don't work, sfc /scannow won't work. Windows 10 is completely dysfunctional, and I've been searching since January for fixes
and not one has worked.

 

Which updates are you trying to install while you get "Update error 0x80070bc9 windows 10"??? One reason might be that it downloaded a corrupted datafile of that update and an alternative solution is for you to go to the stand-alone package for the latest SSU at Microsoft Update Catalog and download that update onto a USB drive and install it that way. Also, I would suggest that you consider cleaning out ‘Clean up system files’ and make sure that "Downloaded program files" is ticked, then, reinstall the stand-alone package of that update.

To do this, do the following:
1. Go to ‘This PC’
2. Right click on drive “C:\” or your boot drive
3. Click ‘Properties”
4. Click ‘Disk Cleanup”
5. Click ‘Clean up system files’ – make sure that ‘Downloaded program files’ is checked at the top
6. Then click ‘Ok”
