  1. Fixing Boot Sequence from Windows with no live media?

I was dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu. I would mostly use Ubuntu for the majority of my free time, but decided to boot into Windows the past few days. I ran the Windows Update and it started doing its thing, restarting and downloading. Then all of a sudden I get a black screen and it's saying "Minimal BASH like line editing is supported". I believe this is GRUB or Grub Rescue. I can't get past this screen and from googling it's seeming like Windows Update either messed with my partition table or deleted the Linux partition all together. So all the fixes seem to be telling me I need to get my Ubuntu USB stick and boot into a live mode. However, the issue is none of my USB drives work anymore, they haven't worked for many months. I don't have a CD drive either.

I was able to boot into windows by hitting and holding F12 as soon as my IdeaPad comes on, it gives me the option of what to boot into. Not Grub like usual, but by going into the BIOS I guess? However, if I don't do that everytime it automatically boots into the Linux partition and then I'm stuck at that "minimal bash like line editing" screen.

Is there a way from inside Windows to force the boot sequence to go right into my Windows partition?

Installation media boots to command prompt

I've just booted from known working install media to see exactly what it does when booting. The sequence of events is...

    1. Windows logo on a black screen
    2. circling dots appear beneath the logo
    3. light blue 'Please wait' screen with circling dots
    4. a command prompt window (very briefly)
    5. the initial Setup page appears

Do you see steps 1-3? If so, it appears you have stopped at step 4, suggesting that something on the disc cannot be read.

Does the disc boot properly in another machine? If so, try cleaning the laptop's drive lens then try booting from the disc again.

If not, make new install media with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, either as a bootable USB, on an ISO that you can burn to another disc. At Step 8 in Option One of this tutorial you can choose between making a USB or an ISO.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

Windows Media Center Live TV Help

    Hi

go here - Hauppauge | Page Not Found select "Windows Media Center install" tab

look at - Setting up your TV tuner in Windows 7 Media Center - select download (will open a pdf with screen by screen instructions)
    "Download
Here is a screen by screen view of the setup of Windows Media Center. It was based on the WinTV-HVR-1600, but the setup with other WinTV-HVR products will be similar."

Follow the guide stage by stage

let the TPU community know at what "step" Media Center gets stuck at Example: step 1, step 2

nb: It may be to do with your zip code and or post code not being entered

In regard to your DVD Rom drive - go to -control panel/device manager/DVD/CD-ROM drives -make a note of the make and model number Example: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-215D ATA Device - highlight the device you have installed -press right mouse button-select properties-details-property and select Install Date from the drop down list and let us know this.

    atb (all the best)

Fixing Boot Sequence from Windows with no live media?

Computer refuses to boot from any Windows live media?

Copying the Windows ISO or its contents to the USB doesn't make it bootable. To do this, you will need the help of some software like Rufus or Microsoft Media Creation Tool.

Create a new NTFS partition which the Windows 10 ISO needs to boot successfully. Boot from an Ubuntu live USB or live DVD and create a NTFS partition for Windows 10 using GParted from the Ubuntu Software Center.

    1. Boot from an Ubuntu live USB or DVD.
    2. GParted should be installed by default or if not install it using sudo apt install gparted
    3. Either resize the Ubuntu partition to create free space to install Windows 10 in if you want to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 10 or else format the entire drive as NTFS. Formatting the entire drive as NTFS will overwrite your existing Ubuntu installation. Follow these steps from the GParted documentation to resize the Ubuntu partition.
      • Select a partition. See the section called Selecting a Partition.
      • Choose: PartitionResize/Move. The application displays the Resize/Move /path-to-partition dialog.
      • Adjust the size of the partition. See the section called Specifying Partition Size and Location.
      • Specify the alignment of the partition. See the section called Specifying Partition Alignment.
      • Click Resize/Move. The application displays the resize/move partition operation in the Pending Operations pane.
    4. Create a new NTFS partition in the unallocated free space.
    5. Click the Apply button.
    6. Shutdown and remove the Ubuntu live USB or DVD.
    7. Insert the Windows 10 installation media and start the computer. In your question you wrote that you have already set the BIOS boot sequence settings to be able to boot from the Windows 10 installation media, so now it should boot successfully.
