  1. "Fixing" issue of files being saved to onedrive caused me to lose said files

I recently connected my university one drive account to my PC. Just now I found it odd that files on my desktop were pathed through the one drive account. Knowing, or assuming, that I wouldn't have access to my university account forever, I wanted to change the source/paths of the files to be on my actual PC.My genius first move was to immediately sing out of my university one drive form my PC, which didn't seem to immediately change anything. The following are the next steps I took.I previously found the thread of https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/why-are-my-desktop-files-

    Saves log files ?

You can either read the files in Windows or my preferred method is.....

    Download CCcleaner from here...........

    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

You can then run cleaner, you will see the log files listed, then if you right click you can save as a text file and then have a read. You may also get an "error reporting" log listed seperatly.

  3. Utilities that I run can no longer automatically save files to my OneDrive

    Hi Alan,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To set OneDrive as your default location to save your documents and files, follow the below steps.

    1. Click on the OneDrive icon from the Taskbar area > Click on the menu button (three-dots) on the top-right corner > Click on
Settings > Go to the Auto Save tab.
    2. Using the drop-down menu, select OneDrive for
      Desktop
, Documents, and Pictures and click on
      OK.
    3. Once you complete the above steps, restart the computer once and try saving the files generated from utilities and check if it is saving in
      C:\Users\myname\OneDrive\Documents folder.

If you are still facing the same issue, then I suggest you to contact OneDrive support for further assistance on this issue by following the below steps.

  4. "Fixing" issue of files being saved to onedrive caused me to lose said files

Recent Files in Windows 10 not populating when opening/saving in Office and OneDrive...

    Hi Jay,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

According to your description, when you open a file in a OneDrive folder and save a copy to another location in OneDrive, it does not appear in "Recently used files" in "Quick access".

One possible cause of this issue is that OneDrive is not showing in File Explorer.

To check if this is the case, you can go to Group Policy Editor and enable OneDrive.

To do this, follow these steps:

    • Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
    • Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open Group Policy Editor.
    • Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > OneDrive.
    • Double-click the Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage policy.
    • Select Not Configured or Disabled and click Apply and OK.
    • Restart your computer and check if OneDrive appears in File Explorer.

Another possible cause of this issue is that OneDrive is not syncing properly. To check if this is the case, you can try to restart the OneDrive sync client. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Click the OneDrive button in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.
    • Click the More option.
    • Click the Close OneDrive button.
    • Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
    • Type %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe and click OK to restart OneDrive.
If none of these solutions work, you can also try to update OneDrive, reset OneDrive, or reinstall OneDrive.

For Office, you can check the following information:

    • Open any Office program, such as Word or Excel.
    • Click on the "File" menu in the top left corner and select "Options".
    • In the Options dialog box, click on the General tab on the left.
    • Under the General tab, find the option "Show recently used files in Quick Access" and make sure it is ticked.
    • Click on the 'OK' button to save the changes.
If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
