Windows 10: Fixing Microsoft Store and Xbox Beta app install problems error code 0x80070005

The solution for installing 2 problematic games For the King and Wolfenstein II was to set permissions for all users and groups for the WindowsApps folders on both of my drives 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps' and 'F:\WindowsApps in my case'. This prevented the 0x80070005 / access denied error from occuring.

Here are the steps to set permissions for both folders

Find the locations for WindowsApps folders

Right mouse button click on the folder and select properties, then the security tab

Click the advanced button

Change the Owner to the name of your main windows user account

Now, for all usernames and groups in the list below, under Basic Permissions select ''Full control' and click OK.There may be some permissions you can't change, set as many as possible, you can also set them in the main security tab.

Repeat the above for each WindowsApp folder if you have multiple drives

Let me know if this works for you too, personally, it's been a huge pain in the backside to fix, so apologies if it doesn't fix the problem.

Error 0x80070005 when trying to download anything from Microsoft Store

Hello, yesterday I attempted to download Sea of Thieves via Game Pass Ultimate from the Microsoft Store.

However, the download would give an error, code 0x80070005, after a few seconds following the "acquiring license" stage of the download.

I've retried downloading the game multiple times, attempted to download other apps like Xbox Beta, and have searched for a solution online for several hours, but nothing that others have suggested so far seems to work.

In fact, I even tried to download Xbox Beta from the Xbox website, but I was given error 0x80070005.

How can I fix this error?

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried the troubleshooting steps you listed, but none have affected the 0x80070005 from the Microsoft Store or Xbox app.

It sounds like you are implying that the issue can be fixed by a Windows Update, but, as stated in the original post, updating to version 1709 made my situation worse without fixing the original issues. Is updating Windows something that I should try again?

To also add a note, I have attempted these app updates on a laptop running Windows 10 version 1607, which is currently able to install all of the app updates I am having issues with on my computer, but is unable to install an update for OneNote (error 0x80070005).
