  1. Flash videos not working with Edge browser

This problem has frustrated me to no end. For some reason, flash videos on websites like Gamespot, IGN and Gametrailers will not work with the Edge browser. All I get is a black screen with sound, or most of the time without any sound at all.

Here are some of the things I've tried already:

    1) Updating video card drivers. I'm running the latest NVidia drivers, version 361.75

    2) Used sfc /scannow and DISM commands. sfc /scannow finds the driver opencl.dll as corrupt, but that's a well known bug. I still can't view any videos regardless of whether I'm using the Microsoft or NVidia version of that .dll.

    3) Reinstall the Edge browser using this video

    4) Checked whether Adobe Flash player was turned on in Edge about a million times

    5) Uninstalled all Windows 10 updates (including flash related ones) and then reinstalled them.

Nothing has changed after completing all of those steps, and I'm fresh out of ideas *Banghead

    :)

Why does Flash Player only work in Google Chrome but not Explorer or Edge?

I have the same issue, not just with video but also audio.

The problem seems to be with users who are also running Chrome. I tried to disable Adobe Flash Player in Chrome to see if that would allow the Edge Flash Player to work. They clearly aren't the same version.

Also, if the flash player is running in Edge and you try to run the flash player in Chrome, then Chrome doesn't work either until the flash player in Edge is closed.

I also tried updating Chrome to see if that might bring the versions closer together. I wish there were a repair/reinstall for Edge, as that would likely resolve the problem.

I think we may have to uninstall other browsers with Flash Player embedded (which Chrome does). But, if there's no way to repair the Edge browser install, I'm not sure it would help. And then, I wouldn't have any browser that can play video and audio files.

In addition, I have a similar problem with certain formats of video file in the Microsoft Movie Maker application. I wonder if that has flash player embedded too.

Problem I have had include: sound not working, video stop/start, audio making horrible noises and stopping/starting. The video usually plays, just not properly.

I have tried all of the above, plus:

    - updating audio and video drivers

    - rolling back audio and video drivers to versions from HP

    - changing to generic drivers

    - altering flash player resolution to lower

    - turning on/off flash player options

    - disabling and reenabling flash player in Edge

    - disabling flash player in Chrome

    - updating Chrome to latest version

    - Microsoft audio troubleshooter

    - Microsoft video troubleshooter

None of these had any effect on the problem.

Exactly what version of Windows 10 do you have installed?
Have you tried a browser using a different version of Adobe flash, such as Firefox or Chrome?
    See Adobe - Flash Player

A few days ago I allowed the Insider Preview build 14251 to be installed via Windows Update.
NOW no flash video on my Firefox 44 while Microsoft Edge delivers the video stream.

You can roll back Windows 10 to previous version via Settings - Update & Recovery - Recovery.

  5. Thanks for replying Irwin. I'm using version 1511, and it's a clean install so I can't roll back or anything.

I have Chrome installed and that works perfectly. I'm thinking about uninstalling Chrome, because I wonder if Chrome's built in flash is messing with Edge..

When I first did my clean install, Edge worked great so I don't know what caused this particular problem.

    try this

If after updating your video driver you still have the problem. Try turning off video acceleration for Microsoft Edge browser.

    1. Go to Control Panel.

    2. Click on Internet Options.

    3. Click on the Advanced tab.

    4. Under Accelerated Graphics check the box that says "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering".

    5 restart your computer.

OK I tried that and still no luck.. But that means it's not a hardware acceleration issue like I originally thought. It must be a problem with the integrated flash player itself, since videos aren't working in software mode.

    Hi Irwin,

I know this isn't an answer to the posters question, but I had the same Firefox/Flash issue with 14251. I downloaded and installed the 64bit version of Firefox 44 and Flash is working again.

I think the reason is because Microsoft Edge doesn't support plug-ins like Adobe Flash you have to use their own version, Microsoft Silverlight, using that worked for me, although now I use Google Chrome. Hope I helped! *Smile

  11. In MS Edge - Settings - Advanced Settings you will see: Use Adobe Flash Player - On/Off

    Thanks.

Why is that setting off by default?
Why can't edge play the videos unless you select that setting to "on"?

  13. Flash videos not working with Edge browser

I finally managed to fix the problem. Although I could never manage to pinpoint the source of the issue, I rectified it by just doing an update repair. Basically, it just reinstall Windows 10, without removing any of my files or programs.

It's a nifty feature, and I don't know why I never thought of it before.

Glad to be running Edge as my primary browser again though. As barebones as it is, it's still very much superior to Chrome in terms of performance; especially in scrolling smoothness and launch speed...

Also, Chrome was giving me problems with shockwave crashing.

I am not sure is off by default! My default setting is On, this may have to do with what you use prior to upgrade. Will need to construct two test cases, one using Adobe Flash in IE 11 and one not using Adobe Flash in IE 11. But going through the whole upgrade again is not worth the time and effort. Will monitor this next time I perform another upgrade!
