Flash zero-day flaw under attack to spread ad malware...

It does, it's called Defender, formerly known as Microsoft Security Essentials. It's all you need and is the least invasive with the smallest resource footprint. Basically, decent AV protection is for past infections and previous worms and other problems...although I do agree that a lot of ancient pests won't run at all in Win8/10. But more than that, malware doesn't run in an unpatched security hole--malware is straight-forward programs that do nasty things to an OS. Can't patch against that, pretty much. People run all kinds of crap they get from the Internet.

Hopefully, you don't run with Defender disabled. Couldn't agree more about Norton's, though. People should avoid that and McAfee's...Defender's caught everything I've encountered on the 'net--which isn't much. Still, it's been frequent enough (1-2 incidences every few years) that I know it's actually there and working...*Wink But I'm a lot pickier about where I go on the Internet and what I download and run than many people I know. I've seen some everyday systems that I am surprised will even boot, clogged as they are with malware and junk software--these folks need Defender, no doubt about it.

  2. On the Adobe getFlash page
    These are links MS kbs.

Also, run Windows Update - there was one kb 3034719 that didn't automatically download / install when I finished my Hyper-V Preview build upgrade.

This is a bit of a mess - these updates.
I started the Preview Build update and decided to check Windows Update and get the newest.
It failed because there was already an update in progress.
I went back to see what the Preview build was doing and it had stopped (WU presumably interrupted the build update).
Ok, so I went back to WU, checked for updates (defender had updated - so that was what was in progress the first time I tried).
but .... kb 3034719 was still offered - so I downloaded and installed it.
then I started the preview build update again and went to bed.

Anyway, run WU and see what is offered, check the Adobe reference to a MS kb and see if any of that helps.

  3. Since we are talking about Adobe, have they fixed the exploits in 16.0.0.296? What exploits are in 16.0.0.296? I must have forgot to add the appropriate Smiley. *Redface

    It's Adobe.
The next version is going to be just like all of the previous versions (e.g. "Swiss Cheese"). I had two thoughts on your comment:

    1) you were confused about the exploits
    2) you were making a statement about Adobe.

Seems #2 applies. It only took a few days for this version to fail. *Sad

Flash zero-day flaw under attack to spread ad malware...

Great for the pro black-hats that modern browsers provide them with easy portability of their wares. Apple fanfolk are just incredulous that something has the AUDACITY to infect their perfect systems.

Another reason why IE## inability to implement "Click-to-play" object selectivity is in/of itself a vulnerability. Firefox and Chrome got your back, if you're motivated to implement.
