  1. Flashing updated BIOS from a different OEM ID

    Hi,

I have two Advent 4489 netbooks, Atom N270 based, they have been upgraded to 2GB of RAM(667-DDR2), one has an 80GB HDD and one now has a 120GB HDD.

The Advent 4489 as sold was a rebadged version of the MSI Wind U90.

I have flashed the BIOS of one of the netbooks to the MSI U90's version 1.0G, which then allows overclocking from the BIOS changing the FSB. Which works fine overclocking using the 667 MHz rated RAM as the CPU is on a 3.0 clock multiplier. This netbook is not running a version of Windows but a different OS

However, the other Advent 4489 netbook I have installed a fully licenced version of Windows 10, which is fully activated.

If I flash the BIOS on this netbook there is a risk I lose the activation of my Windows 10 as the BIOS then shows the product as a MSI U90/U100 using version 1.0G BIOS, Where the Advent with Windows 10 displays it as an Advent computer.

There are no similar updated BIOS available for/from Advent support.

Although they are old they are both useful when connecting through my VPN and using RDP, in fact they appear faster than browsing locally etc! Which isnt really a surprise.
It is just that overclocking as a 'turbo' mode from 1.6GHz to 2.0GHz if stable would be useful at times.
Though not at the risk of losing the activation of Windows 10.

Having had that happen on my desktop board when I replaced it even for a direct like for like replacement it isnt something I relish going through again.

Will this proposed upgrade of BIOS cause my Windows installation to be de-activated?

    Regards

    :)

  2. Should I update bios?

Lol, there is still so many myths about flashing bios and people actually believe in them. People, this is 2018, not 1998, bios updates are easy and when file is provided by manufacturer themselves then they do RMA gpus, motherboards, mice and all other devices which failed during flashing.
