I just noticed that multiple folders on my E: drive are missing. It seems the remaining storage of this drive has increased as well. Its an internal hard drive, not a usb or anythingWhen I try to open the folder from my favourites right clicking the files on my taskbar I received this error:"E:\art is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have bee

CMD cipher /e on a folder output "Request not supported"

I've recently discovered cipher command on windows-10 command-line.

Now, the problem is when I'm try to execute cipher /e [directory name] or cipher /e [absolute path], because I'm always receiving the error [directory name]: Request not supported..

    Some useful info:

    • I'm running Microsoft Windows 10 Home
    • I've executed the command as administrator either on 'cmd' and 'powershell'
    • The disk's file system is in 'NTFS'.
    • I've gave all the access to all the users in the 'Security' attribute on the interested folder(An empty folder for test purposes).

Could someone give me a hint/suggestion/solution about where the problem could be? Am I missing something important?

  3. The folders from the E-Drive get authomatically deleted

    Hi Vaibhav,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing an issue with Windows 10. There could be several possible causes for your E-drive to automatically delete folders.

Here are some methods you can try to fix this error:

Method 1: Stop Windows Defender from deleting files automatically. Windows Defender is a built-in antivirus program that may delete files that it considers as threats. You can disable this feature by following these steps:

    1. Open “Windows Defender” > Click on “Virus & threat protection”.
    2. Scroll down and click “Virus & threat protection settings”.
    3. Scroll down and find “Exclusions” > Click “Add or remove exclusions”.
    4. Click on “+ Add an exclusion” > Select “Folder” under Exclude a Folder section.
    5. Browse to select your E-drive folder that you don’t want to be deleted by Windows Defender and click “Select Folder”.
Method 2: Turn off Storage Sense to stop Windows 10 deleting files automatically. Storage Sense is a new feature in Windows 10 that automatically clears temporary files and other unnecessary data to free up disk space. You can turn off this feature by following these steps:

    1. Open Settings > Click on System.
    2. Click on Storage > Turn off Storage Sense option under Storage Overview section.
In addition, check if you have installed third-party computer junk cleaning software, which may automatically clean up file junk in some cases.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

  4. Folders missing from e/ drive. Claim to be unavailable. Microsoft support did a system...

My data folders (Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, etc) are on DRIVE E: not Drive C:

I THINK the programs are looking in the wrong place.

All my Programs are stored on Drive C:

Drive D: is my Recovery Image

Drive E: is where all my Data files were stored (Documents-Pictures-Videos, etc).

    Drive F: has: Clipart-Document Themes 14-Media-MSOCache-Office 14 - Stationery - and Templates.

Hewlett Packard set my computer system up.

Before I did what you suggested above about MOVING files - I had only one listing for Drive EFolders missing from e/ drive. Claim to be unavailable. Microsoft support did a system... :(DATADRIVE1-Docs-Pics-Video-Music). Now Drive E: shows up listed under THIS PC as E:\ (and it contains ALL my data - docs-Pics-Video-Music)). All these data
folders also show up listed under THIS PC in the DOCUMENT folder; AND, all the datat folders also show up in DATADRIVE1-Docs-Pixs-Music-Video!!!! Whatever happened when I moved the files caused them to appear in several places!

I don't think the programs know where to find anything!!!! DUD!

I also have 4 external Western Digital hard drives (but I don't have all of them plugged in simultaneously). My problem with the external hard drives is that now Windows does recognize my 6 TB one - I know it is working because the little light is on and
blinking....the drive just does not show up in File Explorer.

    Do you have any suggestions?
