Windows 10: For mmc.exe I get "This app has been blocked for your protection"

Thanks once again for those suggestions, no1yak and brink. Unfortunately neither fiddling with the UAC settings nor doing a repair install has worked.

 

I updated initially to the Makers Update (makers/creators whaterver they want to call it) ... had the same problems. I actually took this issue to microsoft, they remotely accessed my pc, they worked on it for about 4 hours. The end result, was to revert me back to the previous version of windows 10.

So, that was 2 or 3 months ago? I did the manual / force now update type.

And here we are today .. I've just again tried the forced update .. and it updated.. but the problem is still there.
So two months go by and still no fix to the condition.

My guess is that the only option is a clean install. Sorry but so disgusted by windows 10 experiences I don't want to waste further time with an os that just never seems to be right. Brand new clean install on my other machine, brand new Aorus 8gig 580rx and I get frequent lockups from video_scheduler_internal_error, this problem with my admin account, or ANY admin account other than the direct administrator account, how is it that anyone can be truely happy with this os?

I miss windows xp pro. every machine I installed, I would install the cmdcons so that there'd be a way to remove crapware (people I installed for were known to disregard simple updates and get mildly mean malware, and to kill would be simply to start command console, remove the garbage, reboot, update and all would be good till 6 months later that the user did the same stupid "but it said I needed this video driver codec thing).

... Anyway ... just looking in to see if anyone has found a solution to the problem other than "elevated command" and clean reinstall.

FYI ... so far the only thing that's worked is to completely disable UAC via registry edit.

IN: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Look for EnableLUA change it from 1 to 0.

And while mentioning the registry .. I like the new Regedit's "Address Bar" but would still like to have a status bar that shows current location, or both, top and bottom to be an editable address bar. I know its not common to want something like that and it makes sense to have an editable bar at the top ... but still prefer it at the bottom like previous versions.

Just note that disabling UAC using that unsupported option can break apps from the Store preventing them from running.

 

It's not a solution, but I simply run mmc now from an admin powershell. It's not elegant, but it's simple and it works. For the amount of times I need to use MMC, it's not worth the grief of a clean install.
