Force Win 10 to remember where to open windows

    Hi everyone!
I upgraded to Win 10 few weeks ago and I have a small issue with it.
I can't make Win 10 open windows where i want them to open.
Previously with Win 7 I had the Explorer open on the right side of the screen, taking about half of the screen. My browser would open on the left side taking up the rest of the screen. It was very easy to set up. I just resized it to what I wanted, placed it where I wanted and closed it down. After reopening it would open in the same place, same size.
I tried the same with Win 10 and it doesn't work... Every time I reboot and open my browser and Explorer I have to readjust them. I know that's a very minor thing, but it bothers me every time I turn my PC on.
Any ideas on how I can force Win 10 to remember where to open windows?
    Thanks,

    :)

  2. Initial Log on

I've forgotten the log on or miss type my password on my new windows 10 laptop, does any one know how to reset it or get past it? I've only had it 3 days and can't remember the password or miss typed it (I set it up late the first night and have tried
every miss typed version I can think of) and now I don't what to do.

Force Win 10 to remember where to open windows

Hi, welcome to tenforums. This is a long reported issue from at least Win 7 on and probably before- i.e. not particular to Win 10. And not everyone experiences this.

Please see this (very long) thread..
    and
Can we get a straight answer - Windows does not remember window size and position - Bug or by design? Workaround?

from which I have extracted this which might help.

"It should work properly, as on our test computers. Please follow the steps below.

    1. Open Registry.

    2. Find the following keys.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

    3. Delete the keys.

Please check if the issue persists.

If it reoccurs, I suggest that you use ShellExView.

Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.

Run ShellExView, in the pane sort the entries with manufacturers. Disable all non-Microsoft *.dll files, and check the result. If the issue does not occur, one of the files can be the culprit. We could narrow down it one by one."

Others who have dealt with this may have specific suggestions.
