Windows 10: Forgot Windows 10 local user password

Hi,

I am using Windows 10 Home version 1903 on a Lenovo ideapad 310. I forgot my local user password, but I was able to use a freeware to create reset Administrator password and then create an Admin user login. Using the self-help guides online, I logged into the Administrator account and did the following things:

1. Ran netplwiz. I went to the accounts and tried to reset the password for the account, but I did not have authorization to do so even with admin privileges
2. Ran compmgmt.msc. I went to the System Tools in Computer Management, but there were no User Accounts tab to access and change or reset any user account passwords
3. Went to Settings > Accounts > Other Users, but there were no options to change or reset any of the account passwords.

Resetting the computer is not an option because I need the files saved locally to those user accounts.

What else can I do with my Administrator access and privileges to change or even remove those passwords so I can login again?

Forgot Local Password

I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and reset the password for the local account and check.

  Login in to your Microsoft account.
  
• 
  Press Windows logo key + X key.
  
• 
  Select Computer Management.
  
• 
  Click on Local user and group.
  
• 
  In the right window pane, double click on user’s folder.
  
• 
  Right click on local user account and select set password and follow the on screen instructions.

forgot what the password is for your local account


What if you are using your Microsoft account Shawn, and you forgot what the password is for your local account??? Long time ago when I was just using my local account, I never had a password setup for it. Now if I try to log in to my local account, it wants me to enter a password, so right now I don't use it.

And using netplwiz to change your local password, how do I know which user account is my local account?? I am the only user on my computer, and Netplwiz shows me two times, along with a HomeGroupUser$ and guest.

I am listed under group heading in 2 ways, Homeusers and homeusers;Administrator;Users ???

user must enter a password to use this computer is turned off bty.
