If you are planning on performing a complete wipe or clean install you might as well wait to May 1, 2018.
The next build of Windows, Windows 10 version 1803 should be released to the general public.

It was supposed to be released on 4/10/2018 and was delayed. Now it is supposed to be 4/30/2018. An extra day was given as the first day could be extremely slow with high demand on the servers.

I’m off this weekend but can probably do it after work 5/1. Will take hours though. Not looking forward to it but I think it’s the best option.

I was planning to use the Dell recovery USB first and then use the media creation tool for the spring creators update. I think that will install the Dell command update utility that keeps drivers and firmware up to date.

The best option is not to use the Dell recovery unless it is up to date with the latest iso.
To make the quickest re-installation you can:
    1) perform a clean install using a current Windows 10 iso:
    Download Windows 10
    2) Clean Install Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

Typically the iso changes in a timely fashion on the Microsoft website.
So 1709 should be replaced by 1803 on April 30.
You could start the download of the iso before you leave home on May 1 and then have it available to use as an installation when you return home. If this has the 1803 it should then have most of the files and depend only on the update speed.

After Windows is installed you could download the Dell support assistant and install all Dell drivers.

You're welcome @ericnixmd! With some familiarity with the program, I was surprised about the block. Then I was a little amused, having read its real cause. MajorGeeks does use ads to generate revenue, but its downloads have always been squeaky clean.
    Thanks for clarifying.
    Best wishes,

PS: I concur with other posters here who recommend you wait until after the 1803 release is available to you (you can always visit the Windows 10 downloads page and grab an ISO immediately thereafter, and skip waiting for Windows Update to "come around" to you) to perform your clean install. In fact, I plan to do the same thing to my production PC myself as well.

I think I'll wait for 1803 and do a reset/reinstallation. I was thinking I needed the USB drive to get Dell's software (primarily the security tools for preboot authorization and fingerprint reading), but I think I'm going to get rid of the PBA and use Windows Hello for fingerprint authentication.

I can download all the drivers afterward. I did a refresh install hoping it would fix the audio service issue, but it didn't. I'm not sure if this is associated with my change in username or not. At least with a format and reinstall, the username will be correct initially.

One other question: I'm using my Outlook email account as a Windows login. If I do that, will it create an "" profile and then attach the Outlook email address to it, or will it create the email address name as the profile (i.e., user directory would be named after the email address instead of )?
