Windows 10: Four Processor Laptop Not Working Right

Hello,
I have a laptop that has four processors. It is not very strong and I changed the settings in msconfig to go from using one processor to using all of the processors after watching a video to help increase my FPS in games(which did not have a noticeable difference in my computer's performance). Recently I watched another video and this one warned against changing the number of processors in the computer, so I changed it back to one. After restarting, I saw a dramatic decrease in performance even doing things like using the internet. I went back to msconfig and tried to change it back to four processors, but I got a big shock: it says I only have one processor!!!! What can I do? I hate having my computer so laggy.

More likely you have one processor with four cores. If you have a computer with 4 processors you are probably working on a highly classified military project that nobody is supposed to know about.

 

You only have 1 processor (CPU) which probably has 4 cores. The default setting in Windows uses all cores. I believe that number is to limit cores not enable them. It is only used for diagnostics.

I assume you are talking about this screen.

 

The P55t-A5202 has an i5-4200U, which is a 2-core, 4 thread CPU.

This is a 5 year old, mid-range, low-power processor. The laptop also does not have a separate graphics chip. So gaming performance is going to be bad no matter what. For any modern 3D game you'll have to severely reduce the graphics settings to get any playable performance.

Messing with the processor count won't help anything since Windows uses all the cores/threads by default.

 

Well I don't know what happened but after I did it everything is incredibly laggy.
I can't even play video games right now.

 

Yes I am and before the drop down bar went up to four but now it only says one. Everything is so laggy! What can I do??

 

Do you have check marks in the boxes above 'Number of Processors' and/or 'Maximum memory'??

If you do, remove the check marks.
