Windows 10: Free Upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile Will Continue Past July 29

That's the procedure with Verizon. Just got mine the other day and the only major problem was it lost 95% of my contacts. Thanks to Verizon's Cloud service (5GB Free) and it had all my contacts and with a quick sync they are all back. Verizon Cloud replaced Backup Assistant Plus and has the Verizon Cloud app in the Windows store.

Now we will see when they release Redstone and how long it takes to get upgraded.

Claims of the demise of the desktop are premature.

My desktop has dual 27" screens, and I'd prefer more/bigger.

I can tolerate a mere 14" laptop when traveling, but I could never put up with losing keyboard and mouse. That's what a cell phone forces upon me.

A cell phone is simply not a proper computer. No keyboard, no mouse, and almost no screen make it little more than a computer "serving suggestion".

Next generation visualization (Magic Leap et al) may eventually solve the output problem. But what about the input problem?

Until mobile becomes functional, real computing will remain on the desk or lap.

 

Windows 11 free upgrade won't end July 29. It will end when MS announces Windows 12. *Smile

 

IMHO both serve a purpose and I don't see either one replacing the other. *Smile

 

I kept on using dumb phones until 3 years ago, Symbian was good enough for that. Switched to Android but cooperation with desktop and other devices was a nightmare or downright impossible. Interface familiarity and easy connection to desktop and other devices with windows is what made me switch to Windows phone so it's OS on it that I prefer not phone itself.
I bought my Lumia 640 DS and brother's 535 DS outright, unlocked, don't like being dependent on service providers. No internet from provider either, only use it at home and other places where WiFi is available. Both of them have second sim slot with SIM card for internet only and it can be activated for prepaid internet service by sending a message to provider, just i case I need internet on the go.
I'm sorry that MS is not going to stay with Nokia, they made very good phones.
