  2. Well it is really to early to know what kind of deals are in the pipeline but as a user with 10 Windows 7 machines I would possibly upgrade 3 of them and the rest can probably stay on Windows 7. Windows 7 64 bits so good with an SSD and 8Gb and upwards of ram why would anyone upgrade to get more of MS Metroland monetizing them? What an azzhole. We are clients not objects to be monetized.

Well, I for one hopes that MS doesn't go to a fee based OS(Win10). If they do then my choice would be to either stick with Win8.1.1 or.. dare I say go back to Win7. Most of what I do(98%) is on the desktop and Win7Pro 64bit would fit my needs just fine and with 5 more years of support. Well,, could be a winner??

I doubt it will be an all or nothing scenario (particularly given that legacy keys are supported) - the current Office model will probably be followed.

(BTW, Partners are being bombarded with Office365 offers (there is even one offering easy access to Silver membership with very simple sales/deployment/qualification targets)

Seems the subscription thing is high priority stuff at Redmond.

    Hi there.

If Win 10 (or a load more applications) go subscription - then I'm keeping a Windows VM (be it 7, 8, or 10 - depending on the quantity of NON subscription applications available) and will run it on a LINUX HOST. I'll see what I can then replace - for example some office apps work very well on Linux (WPS Office - more compatible than Libre office).

Ms will lose out if it goes hugely down the subscription route.

Monetisation (probably the most Hideous word in the English language at the moment) seems to be the name of the game -- but I for one am not bothering with playing it. !!!! I suspect I won't be the only one either.

    Cheers

  10. Free Windows 10 ? No way! I think its the worst way of getting Win 10 users, Microsoft will be in loss. In my opinion, it should not be for free. Or they might give 50% discount while upgrading from win 8 to win 10.

I don't like the subscription model for the simple reason that, I can't afford it. Its why I downloaded LibreOffice instead of going with Office 365. I know the Office and love to work in it, but I just can't afford it.

I'm in the same boat. I like Windows but if they do go to this plan I will not get Win10. Keep in mind I would have to see the prices but it's very unlikely I would buy Win10 at this moment. I have a copy/key of Win7 and Win8.1 with the spring update files so I don't have to update.

*Thumbs I like to write and many, many years ago I published in an APA. A few years later, I found my story republished in a couple places, but with someone else's name on it as author.

So I have first hand experience of what its like to have your work "stolen" and won't do it myself. Regardless that MS is a corporation and not a person.

*Thumbs Thanks.. I've been in the IT field for over 20 years and I know I would hate to have others steal my work, PERIOD. I put in the effort and I deserve both the credit and pay for my effort and I feel that should apply to all that do the same.
