Windows 10: Frequent BSOD after cleaning the dust in my laptop's fan.

I have been getting Frequent BSOD after I blew away all the dust that was collected in my laptop's fan with an aircan to prevent overheating, (before cleaning around 50-60 celsius, after cleaning around 30-40 celsius)

When ever i get BSOD is when either I am browsing youtube and watching videos, or when I'm playing video games.
The errors that I have been getting are SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, Kernel Security Check Failure and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Before all of this I also had some BSOD issues but after I updated the drivers I hadn't had any BSOD until my recent clean-up.

Get error message on HP Envy laptop that fan may not be working. Hp has failed to resove problem after many attempts.

Its possible dust particles might be preventing the fan from functioning. Have you tried cleaning it to see if it helps?

Is the laptop still under warranty?

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with heating of Windows 10.

What is the make and model of your computer?

Step 1: Most notebook computers have vents located around the case to allow air to flow through the case. If these vents become clogged, or if heat-generating parts become covered with dust, the fan cannot cool the components properly, because
the laptop is hot and overheating becomes a problem.

Lint and dust accumulation prevents air from flowing around the cooling fan blades and causes the fan to work harder and the laptop to get hot. If there is dust in the vents, you should clean the laptop by blowing out the dust from around the fan and heat
shield. This prevents dust from accumulating.

It is not necessary to open the notebook (laptop) to clean out the dust with the canned, compressed air

Step 2: You may also try system restore
to the point when the computer was working fine and check if indeed Windows updates may be causing the issue.

Step 3: Updating the BIOS

Check for BIOS updates and install them using instructions in manufacturers website.

Dumps are all over the place and a few indictae memory_corruption. Since you have two different manufacturers of memory (Micron and Hynix) it would be a good idea to test the RAM:

MemTest86+ is a diagnostic tool designed to test Random Access Memory (RAM) for faults. MemTest86+ will verify that:

• RAM will accept and keep random patterns of data sent to it
• There are no errors when different parts of memory try to interact
• There are no conflicts between memory addresses

Memtest86+ runs from bootable media to isolate the RAM from the system, no other components are taken into account during the test.



Warning MemTest86+ needs to run for at least 8 passes to be anywhere near conclusive, anything less will not give a complete analysis of the RAM.

If you are asked to run MemTest86+ by a Ten Forums member make sure you run the full 8 passes for conclusive results. If you run less than 8 passes you will be asked to run it again.



Note MemTest86+ has been known to discover errors in RAM in later passes than the eighth pass. This is for information only; if you feel there is a definite problem with the RAM and 8 passes have shown no errors feel free to continue for longer.

Running 8 passes of MemTest86+ is a long and drawn out exercise and the more RAM you have the longer it will take. It's recommended to run MemTest86+ just before you go to bed and leave it overnight.

If they test good then enable Driver Verifier and see if that points us to a problem driver:

Driver Verifier's verification process involves putting heavy stress on drivers with the intention of making bad, outdated, incompatible or misbehaving drivers fail. Machines exposed to Driver Verifier will run very sluggishly due to the stress being applied to the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

and make sure the correct boxes are checked.

Warning:
It is not advised to run Driver Verifier for more than 48 hours at a time. Disable Driver Verifier after 48 hours or after receiving a BSOD, whichever happens soonest.

Always create a Restore Point prior to enabling Driver Verifier.

What we're looking for is a verifier generated BSOD with a mini dump that will tell us what driver caused it. If you get a BSOD, rerun dm_log_collector and upload the resulting zip file.

 

When I try booting with the USB that I have memtest installed on, it redirects me to the bios setup

 

Each computer manufacturer has a F key to boot to a device.
If you don't boot to a device you would need to change to boot order to place the USB on the top. Then you would need to rember to switch it back when the test is completed.
For Asus check to see if the F12 key allows you to choose the boot device.

 

See I can switch the boot device, but it won't boot on it, it brings me back to the bios.

 

How did you create the USB flash drive with memtest86+ on it? You laptop probably has UEFI so the USB drive needs to be formatted Fat32 which I believe the memtext86+ installer does.

Have you tried checking the Format the drive box?
