Discus and support Frequent Bugcheck 116 (GeForce GTX 780 Ti) in Windows 10 BSOD Crashes and Debugging to solve the problem; Yes, you are correct - the problem is I know my system language is English UK - what I don't know is what language the Upgrade is trying to use, and it... You have downloaded wrong ISO. You should have Win10_1511_2_EnglishInternational_x64.iso

English means US English, English International is the UK English ISO:
Attachment 86605

Upgrade using different version of same basic language is possible but the OS language will be changed, for instance a UK (International) English Windows 10 can be upgraded with US English install media but the OS language will be switched from UK English to US English, or French Windows 10 can be upgraded with Canadian French install media, OS language switching to Canadian French.

Upgrade using different base language is not possible. Swedish Windows 10 cannot be upgraded with Finnish Windows 10 install media.

My suggestion is to download the correct ISO (English International).

In addition to my previous post, something I forgot:

You can always check the ISO version, edition, build and language simply by mounting it (double click the ISO), noting the virtual drive letter and then giving this command in an elevated Command Prompt:

Code: dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:X:\sources\install.wim /index:1
(Replace X: with actual drive ID letter. Replace install.wim with install.esd if you have an ESD based ISO.)

It shows you all possible information:

Thank you so much for that Kari.
Having now updated to 1511 English International without a hitch, I'm back to the original problem that started this thread - That is 0x00000116 in ntoskrnl.exe caused by dxgkrnl.sys.
The addresses are different since upgrading, but are the same for each bugcheck:
0x00000116 ntoskrnl.exe+1427a0 dxgkrnl.sys+146c9c

The addresses are pretty much always different, because the problem happens on a different part of the memory.

Now that you're up to date we can focus on troubleshooting the BSODs *Smile
OK, so here's what's happening (it's taken a little time to be certain).

The Bugcheck seems to have something to do with my specific user.

If I leave the PC at the user login screen, without logging in, the PC runs indefinitely with no bugchecks, even though 'system level' tasks are running e.g. backups, anti-virus and any user programs that run at startup (as opposed to login). If I then login I get a bugcheck within a couple of hours (sometimes within minutes).

I created a test user; when logged in to this test user the PC will run indefinitely without bugchecks. If I then login to my user I get bugchecks.

From this it seems that the issue is with the user itself, or something that only runs at the user level, and which interferes with the graphics driver.

I will try to establish what runs at the user level in my user, and not in the test user.

Good finding *Smile

If I would have to guess I would think a setting in either the software configuration of Nvidia (if any software would be present) or the power options.

Thanks for the suggestions - I already looked at power settings and couldn't see anything amiss, but I'll do a comparison. I don't ever turn off hard disks, nor do I ever blank the screen or use a screen saver. (the settings are the same as they were under windows 7, so whaterver the problem is it's specific to Windows 10 and my user).

As for nVidia configuration, I've never messed with it - I assume it's nVidia defaults. There are a lot of programs listed under 3D settings but they're all games - the problem occurs when none of them are running. It will Bugcheck with just the startup programs running.
