  1. FTDI 232 UART USB Device

    Windows 10

I am a new Ham Radio operator and bought a dual band radio. It came with a USB dongle to install a driver and to use with software to download frequencies into my radio. I plugged the dongle in and it said it had installed and was ready. I am using Chirp software. When I opened the software, chose my radio and hit to download, it came up with an "error has occurred, could not open port, Error 3". I went to Device Manager and it shows the yellow triangle on the FT232R USB UART and on COMM 3. I originally could not find any COMM ports. I went into Action, scan Legacy Hardware and it added COMM 3, no other ports and it did not change, still has the triangle. I also have tried the USB dongle and it does/says the same.

GSOD when plug in USB device using FTDI drivers

When I plug in a device via USB the WIN10 OS immediately generates stopcode error: NOMORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS (green screen) and machine reboots or freezes.

WIN10 Pro x64, OS Insider build 19631, release 200514_1410. Driver installations of course don't appear in the device manager Ports or USB Controller lines because they are never installed.

The device is designed to use FTDI drivers only. Other USB connected devices that work with Microsoft drivers install and operate correctly.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

GSOD when plug in USB device using FTDI drivers

Thank you all for your inputs they were very helpful for me to focus on potential solutions. Here is the solution that I found.

    Solution:
In “Control Panel/Programs and Features/Uninstall or change a program”, the program “ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller” program was removed. Not sure why it was there.

Now, desired operation results as follows, upon plugging the target device into a USB3.0 port:
    a. In “Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus controllers”: the “FTDI USB Serial Converter A” and “FTDI USB Serial Converter B” install correctly.
    b. In “Ports (COM & LPT)”: the “FTDI USB Serial Port (COM3)” and “FTDI USB Serial Port (COM4)” install correctly.

There is no longer a "NOMORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS" GSOD when I plug in the target device and the device works as it should.

    USB to UART driver problem

Since upgrading to Win 10 from Win7 I can no longer us a Data Acquisition device that uses a USB to UART controller. Nothing has changed hardware wise. Ran fine before the upgrade and still runs fine on my desktop running Win 7. I have already sent an email
to the vendor. Doubtful I will get a reply as they are a small company in Japan.

I have tried installing generic Windows USB to UART drivers re-installed the vendors driver, run the program in Win 7 compatibility mode. Device Manager says everything with the COM port is running fine. Still get an error when initiating the device.

I just looked at the Driver File Versions in Device Manager and both the usbser.sys and serenum.sys are different different than on my Win 7 machine. Pretty sure this is the problem. So how can I revert to the older file version? Or does someone have another
    suggestion?
