Windows 10: Fun with Cortana

I'm gonna make a list of things you have to do to optimize Cortana's performance. Thanks but I just can't find how to use it on my PC, Desktop.

Jeff Cortana pops up when you search from the task bar. Start a search msconfig or something easy, you might also look in the hamburger helper menu.

If you don't have speakers or a mic connected, Cortana might not even try.

Don't rush out to get that mic yet, I had some problems using a crappy webcam mic! *Wink
Had to use headset! :/
Probably best to wait for the next build to come out.

I used a $100.00 webcam and it still didn't work efficiently! The headset did though, probably because of close proximity.

Would be nice if you reported back once you have it. I am wondering whether that will work. You can test it with the sound recorder which is in all systems.

Mic checks out ok - it isn't that she doesn't understand me, she isn't listening *Tongue

Not high on my list ... I'll play another day.

Did you turn on "Respond to Hey Cortana"?

 

I'm not sure, I poked around settings and thought I had everything up and running. As I mentioned, this is low priority - I've played with voice commands many times over the years and it is a neat trick, just not something I'd really use to operate a machine. Cortana is just the newest iteration.

I recall a msg in Cortana that said my mic was not on ... but I could see the volume meter work when I spoke and could record in sound recorder.

Thanks for the suggestion Badrobot- I might try to find that setting in a few weeks.
