Windows 10: Gears of War 4 does not detect correct vram

I have been working at this for weeks now. Start GOW4, splash screen comes up, then black for a minute or two, then the GW410 error notification stating 0gb vram detected.


I'm on an XPS L702x with integrated intel graphics, and a dedicated Nvidia gt 555m GPU with 3gb vram. It doesn't meet the actual specifications for the game, but the error is GW410, 0gb vram detected, gives me the option to continue, then crashes.


I reinstalled the game x2, reinstalled windows 10 pro, updated video drivers to current, I even downgraded to previously known working drivers suggested on various forums. The windows store has been reset, logged out of and in to a number of times, and xbox services are working.


I would assume its not connecting to the correct gpu, so in the nvidia control panel, ive set the NVIDIA gpu as default. When I do the "manage 3d settings/program settings" to set up the correct gpu to the .exe file, there is no GOW4 in the list. I set it up for "geargame.exe" to be linked to the nvidia gpu, but I dont have a clue if thats the right one. The uwp system is confusing to me. GOW4 shows up on the app list and on xbox as an installed game, but maybe i havent linked the correct executable to the dedicated gpu?


No idea if any of this matters, but I have been disabling and enabling the integrated intel gpu for test purposes trying to fix this problem. I first thought if task managers new feature of reading gpu information was working, maybe GOW4 would be able to detect the correct amount. What i found was when the intel gpu was disabled, the wddm driver is 1.3, enable the intel

GPU engine and I'm at wddm 2.1. No idea if that matters at all, just something I've noticed. And I've tried most everything else.
