Windows 10: General Questions (on-going)

i recently learned about the difference of GPT (GUID Partition Table) vs MBR (Master Boot Record).

Through EaseUS, I saw that my D: drive was actually MBR. My brother had helped me install this as I've always been a tech noob. However, I've slowly started learning more.

As I understand, MBR is suppose to locate the booting OS on the specific drive, but this drive has no OS's as I plan to use it as an external drive. It also has limitations like limited amount of volumes being created (4 to be exact), anything else wold fall under "Extended". I also understand MBR can't be changed to GPT if there's existing partitions; so I'll leave that alone for now as I'm waiting for my Seagate backup drive. I also heard there's a way to reset or rebuild MBR in case virus(es) hide in it. Something to do with the fdisk if I remember correctly.

GPT on the other hand; it may sound like it can create unlimited partitions (limited to the OS) but let's just use the limit of 128 for easier understanding...

With naming drive letters; A: & B: can't be used. These 2 letters were used on older PC's, I remember those floppy disk days. I would insert floppy disk to A: & play the game "Total Carnage" oh; the memories..anyhow.

C: is our main drive; D: drive would be the default CD/DVD drive if there's only one drive (this is the case for my laptop) & we keep going until Z: drive. Assuming we use the alphabets, Z = 26th letter. Do you know what's next?

Maybe ZA: drive? Until one day we have Z(128) for easier understanding (& spamless/much shortened post). Okay, no one will require that many partitions but..is that theory correct?

If want to disable IE, still can. However, can't uninstall it like were able to in XP/98/whatever.
Here's how, although I find it useful in case Chrome or Firefox stops working and have to re-download it. *Wink
1. Search for turn windows features on or off and click it in the search results.

2. When the app opens, uncheck Internet Explorer 11.

3. Click Yes on the warning dialog.

4. Click OK.

5. Restart for the changes to finish.

 

General question

Hi all,

I have a general question. Are people on this site that are listed as Microsoft Support Engineer actually Microsoft employees? Or are they IT specialists with qualifications such as MCSE, MCP, etc?

Q6600 questions

you will never know, but i will say i got my 6600 from newegg and it was G0 stepping.

Depending on your setup a 6600 will hit in the mid 3GHz range. Mine runs stable at 3.4Ghz. Yea it will hit 3Ghz without a problem at all, however i would suggest somewhere around 3.2 as a safeguard against gpu bottlenecking.

If you are going to go higher than 2.8Ghz i would suggest an aftermarket cooler. Quads run very hot.

Oh a G0 stepping will say SLARK on it I lapped mine so i can't rememebr the correct spelling.
