Windows 10: Genuine Windows and Windows 10

I didn't see any mention of a promotional upgrade price for users of Window XP, but I assume MS would want those users to upgrade as well.

 

Probably them more than anybody. *Wink XP is likely a thorn in thier side right about now.

 

Every Doctor's office I walk into is still running XP Pro. Getting the AMA and their software vendors on board would be a huge feather in their cap. They'll do something!

Over the years, as a computer tech, working in both a shop and in my own business, I've worked on hundreds of PC's made by local shops and almost NONE of those PC's had a licensed version of Windows installed on it.
That goes back many years to the very beginning of "Windows".
Most users today, as in the past, have no idea if their version of Windows is licensed or not and couldn't care less.

As for upgrading XP to Windows 10, many of the older XP machines couldn't run Windows 10 anyway. There are many XP PC's still running on just 256 or maybe 512 megs of Ram. Not running very well, , , , but 'running'. *Sad
I've tried W-10 on a few really old PC's, that run XP, here in my own shop and it was a NO-GO!
The installer goes just so far and then stops with a BSOD.

PS: In early 2014, the VA Hospital was still running Windows XP-Pro on all their terminals (PC's)
They finally upgraded to Windows 7, which has already had its EOS date posted by MS.
Could that be called, "too little, too late".???

What I didn't see, Alpha, is those of us who have a fully legal and licensed Retail Windows 7 or 8.1. I have two OEM Windows 8.1 machines, and I also have two machines with Retail Windows 8.1.1 (upgraded from Retail 8.0). I do believe I am as Genuine as my two OEM machines.

 

Genuine is genuine, doesn't matter if it's OEM or Retail. If they are genuine they are properly licensed.

EDIT: Even more so with windows 8/8.1, both now activate online and use a unique to that PC product code.

Funny thing about non-genuine customers... They aren't customers.

 

Well, non-genuine customers are potential customers to MS. And the number is huge all over the world, especially in China.
If MS can make them purchase, the revenue will surprise them.

One way to work around this is by joining the Windows Insider Program and migrate to the Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview which will qualify for a free upgrade to the final RTM release of Windows 10.

Just to confirm if I am reading this correctly

I have Win 8.1 Home at the moment so would be due to get the Home version of 10 via upgrade

However, as I am in the insider program, I could update my main machine shortly before launch of 10 to the Win 10 Pro Preview and then get the pro version for free ?

 

yes win 8.1 core = windows 10 home not sure if insiders will all get pro or not
