Windows 10: German keyboard need English symbols help

Hi, hope someone can help. I have bought a German HP Pro Book x360 11 G3 EE Windows 11 I think laptop thinking what a great deal... that lasted 10 minutes.... so, I have managed to change everything to English, however the laptop's physical keyboard is in German. Now, I have assigned some letters to be what I want them to be but this took forever. How do I, for example, get my question mark symbol to be shift plus _ I can't even find the symbol to even put it here as I ask this. I am so sorry. Also, I can't find my at symbol. Going crazy. How can I assign each letter to be what it says at lea

How to convert a German Windows, German keyboard to an English Windows with Danish keyboard

Yes, you can convert your PC from German to English and also change the keyboard layout to Danish. Here are the steps:

1. Change the Display Language:
   
   • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
     
   • Under "Preferred languages", click on "Add a language".
     
   • Search for "English (United States)" or whichever version of English you prefer, and add it.
     
   • Click on the English language option you just added and select "Set as default".
     
   • Windows might need to download a language pack to complete this change, which it will do automatically. You will need to restart your computer to apply these changes fully.
     
2. Change the System Locale:
   
   • Go to Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region.
     
   • Go to the "Administrative" tab and click on "Change system locale".
     
   • Choose "English (United States)" or your preferred version of English and click "OK". You'll need to restart your computer to apply these changes.
     
3. Change the Keyboard Layout:
   
   • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
     
   • Under "Preferred languages", click on English and then "Options".
     
   • Under "Keyboards", click on "Add a keyboard".
     
   • Search for the Danish keyboard layout and add it.
     
   • You can remove the German keyboard layout by clicking on it and then "Remove".
     

Regarding the physical keyboard, it's not necessary to buy a new one. The keyboard layout settings in Windows determine which characters are entered when you press keys on your keyboard, not the physical keyboard itself. However, if you find it confusing to use a Danish layout with a German physical keyboard (since the keys won't match the characters they produce), you might consider getting a Danish keyboard or keyboard stickers.

resetting keyboard symbols

Hi Carol,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to remove English UK and just have the default English US under keyboard input language and check.

Step 1:To keep English US as the default input language and to remove other installed services

a. Type Settings in the search bar and click on the setting symbol on the top right.

b. Click on Time and Languages.

c. Click on Region and Languages.

d. Under the languages tab.

e. Click and Change the language to English US.

Step 2:Use on screen keyboard to type the characters (@, “)

To use on-screen keyboard, follow the steps below.

a. Click on Start; type “On-screen” without quotes and hit Enter.

b. Now check if you’re able to get right characters.

Laptop Keyboard symbol error

Hi. My laptop keyboard has gone mad!!!
A lot of the symbol characters have swapped around eg

the "?" is now on the "_" button!

the "&" is the "/" button

the Hashtag is a £ sign and others have moved. Its a nightmare to type!

I have tried and it did Not work....

• Updated keyboard driver
  
• Uninstalled keyboard driver and restarted
  
• Changed Language to German
  
• Changed language back to English UK
  

Something worked temporarily was I changed keyboard to Irish Qwerty BUT when laptop went to sleep all symbols wrong again!

Changed back to English uk qwerty and works until asleep!!

I am running Windows 11 home edition.

Please Please any suggestions?
