Windows 10: Get out of safe mode without password

Needed to boot in safe mode, used msconfig to set the boot mode. Of course I was not aware my pen number login is wothless so now I am stuck in perpetual safe login screen. My outlook password is in a program on the system which I cannot access.

Tried shift restart and tried startup settings and press enter, but this does not do a normal boot, just another safe mode. Where is the option for normal boot!?

Boot your computer from Windows installation disc or Windows RE. Open up a command prompt and type the following to turn
off safe mode:

After running the command, reboot your computer and it should boot in normal mode.
You might need to replace {default} with your own identity. Type bcdedit and press Enter, it will list all your identities.

Use the same msconfig > click Boot at top > under Boot options, UN-check "Safe boot" > click OK when done.
Now restart your computer.

Does that bring you back to the normal desktop ?

 

I cannot get pass the safe mode login because it wont accept my pen number.

I cannot understand why they would disable pen login with safe mode, and not at least warn you it is disabled! Is it really that hard to tell 10 to just boot normal!

 

Did you try any of the other options with the Shift + Restart? I'm wondering if "Continue and exit to W10" will send you via the normal boot.

 

First thing I tried. It seems once you set msconfig to boot in safe mode there is no way tell it to stop unless you can login to the desktop.

Anyone know if win 7 can read a win win 10 formatted drive? I was thinking of pullling the 10 hd, read it from my 7 system and try and get my outlook password.

 

If you have system restore points setup you could try returning your PC to a restore point before you made the msconfig change. This should revert you back to a normal boot.

 

Tried that also, you need login to reach it. Would not matter, I checked restore before I did safe mode and there wasnt any I could use.

 

OK. This is slightly more complicated but perhaps the only way you will be able to get back. You need to use the Shift + Restart to get back to the advanced startup options and boot into the Command Prompt. You will then need to follow the instructions in Option 3 of the tutorial below to remove safe mode:

If you wish, you can try:

• Download: Rescue6.1.1023X64.iso - Google Drive
• Use Rufus to create a bootable: Rufus - Create bootable USB
• Boot up and on the bottom left corner, click on the Command Prompt icon
• Type: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot
• Reboot.

 

You mentioned your password for Outlook.

I was wondering about trying to access your Outlook account, via another computer. IE: Signing into Outlook. Since you don't recall your password, then your should have some recovery options to access your Outlook account. See HERE.

I guess the goal might be if you're offered a "password hint" of some sort. I don't know if you'd be able to access your computer using a newly created password for Outlook or not, but I tend to think it won't matter.

There's other options too, such as booting with Hiren's Boot CD, which might help if nothing else seems to work.

 

OK, got really lucky on this one. My Nephew came over with a thumbdrive to try to boot from that. However, he was able to recall one of the passwords to another account that I was able to at least get to the desktop and turn-off safe mode in MSCONFIG. Now I can get into the system. Still have my original problem (which I will create a post for later) but I am back.

My feedback from the experience:
1. Why do they turn off the pen for password to use safe mode? If it's to keep loading extra things for safe mode, fine, but my god at least warn people.
2. You can't do anything in recovery but select boot modes, everything requires an admin login. Where is boot normal? To be able to just boot in normal mode and ignore the boot in safe mode that I put in MSCONFIG would have saved a lot of grief.
