Windows 10: Getting my original product key from Microsoft

My computer was “fried” after a power surge along with my “C-Drive”. I lost my certified copy of Windows 10 Pro which I upgraded from the internet years ago (when it first came online free). I’ve tried every way possible to retrieve the key from my backup without success. I had to purchase a new computer which came with an unregistered copy of Windows 10 Home, for some reason and now I’m being asked to purchase a new product key for $120 dollars. Is there any way I can get a copy of my original product key for that installation from Microsoft since my copy was validated and registered.

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things:

• What do you mean by Windows 10 product key?
• Are you referring to previous Windows key?
• From where did you purchase the product key?

If the operating system was preinstalled (OEM) then I suggest you to contact the manufacturer or if you have purchased the product key from retail store like Microsoft store or from any store I suggest you to contact them to get the Original Windows product
key only then we can activate the Windows 10.

Activate windows 10 after re-installing (I have lost my product key)

I own a Lenovo T430 laptop. In 2017, I installed Windows 10 using my original Windows 7 product key. Unfortunately, I cannot find that product key anymore. I need to re-install windows 10. Will it be automatically activated after the installation, if I skip the step of asking the product key during the installation?

In my opinion, I believe that my laptop will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers and this will not be a problem. Is that true?

If not, please suggest me a solution or a workaround.

A Genuine Microsoft Label (GML) should be found on new devices that:

• Have been preinstalled with or licensed for Pro editions of Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
  
• Have been preinstalled with or licensed for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 shipping into China (with the exception of Hong Kong and Macau).
  
• Are licensed for a Windows Pro product, but have been pre-installed with a Windows 7 Professional downgrade. These devices are licensed for Windows 8 Pro but not pre-installed with Windows 8 Pro. These devices would include a GML.
  

The GML label is used to help users identify the edition of Windows preinstalled on a device and is also an indicator of whether the device is preinstalled with or licensed for genuine Windows. Most commonly the label is found on the back or bottom
of the device.
