Windows 10: Getting the error "Can't read from the source file or disk" when trying to copy video files

Hello, I am using a laptop with Windows 10 installed.


When trying to copy video files to an external hard drive for storage, I get the error "Can't read from the source file or disk" about half-way through the copy process, and the file cannot be copied. This only happens with specific files, as other files copy easily. Even files from the same show copy just fine, but a random few will not copy over. For example, I try to copy a 20 episode TV series to the hard drive, but I get the error for episodes 4, 12, and 19 while the rest go over fine. The episodes that do not work stays consistent every try.

Also, the video files for which I have been getting this error play just fine without any issues.


I have never gotten this error until recently, but now it happens nearly every time I try doing something like this.


Possible solutions that I tried but did not work

• Restarting the computer
• Plugging the external hard drive into a different USB port
• Running CHKDSK on the external hard drive no errors found
  
• Running CHKDSK on the computer's internal hard drive no errors found
  
• Running System File Checker nothing found
  
• Correcting file ownership
• Renaming the file

The most interesting thing I found though was that the problem persisted when I tried a different external hard drive, leaving me to believe that the external hard drive was not the cause of the issue. In fact, I even still got the error when trying to copy the video files to other locations on my computer. Could this mean that something is wrong with my internal hard drive?

Java.nio.file - Copying files

You can't copy a folder, thats why it generates an exception (you are trying to copy a folder using a copy file function).
You probably need to list all the files inside that folder and copy one by one

Cannot read files on floppy disk

Hi, I have files that I know are good on a floppydisk. On trying to access them a message says the disk need formatting. I have tried to use PhotoRec from the UBCD but it will apparantly only read HDD or CD/DVD.

Can anyone suggest a freeware program that might work. Thank you for your help.
