Windows 10: Gmail suddenly not functioning in Mail app "nothing has arrived yet"

One of my gmail accounts is suddenly appearing empty in the Mail app. I have had this account for a while and it is not the only gmail account in my mail app on my Surface. I have not changed the password, I had not changed any settings. I have been through the troubleshooting process all the way through setting it up again with advanced settings and then double checking all of the settings in mail and it still says "nothing has arrived yet." This email is still working fine on my iPhone and when I sign on in a web browser. I even received the emails from Microsoft for setting up the account again on my Surface. There is nothing in any of the mailboxes for this account in my Mail app. My computer is completely up to date with all updates. All other emails on this device are functioning perfectly.

Potential Solutions

Based on some quick research there may be two options that may help resolve this. . .

1. Enable the 2-Step Verification functionality and security feature with your Gmail account and then use the 2-Step Verification to verify and trust the Windows Mail app to have access to your Gmail account
   
2. Enable and use the Less Secure Apps functionality by turning that ON and using your usual Gmail account password with the Windows Mail app to authenticate

Windows 10 Mail app stops recieving mail as it arrives.


I found an app called PingMail. I have it set to send a test mail to my logged in Hotmail account every hour from my Gmail account. So I at least know it when the Hotmail account stops syncing.The mails were coming as they arrived on the Hotmail server without issue for about 2.5 days, then it suddenly stopped. This time I'm going to set the account to sync every 15 minutes to see if it stops again. My other Hotmail address continues to work properly.
