  1. Go straight to All apps letters?

So when you click All apps, you get an alphabetical list. If you have more than two programs installed, scrolling through it becomes cumbersome.

A friend from the Insider program mentioned clicking on the title letters in the list, which wasn't at all obvious, and that produces a list of all the title letters, and enables you to jump to the letter of interest... if you know it [1]. But it takes three clicks to get to the list... Start / All Apps / A (or whatever).

Is there any way to reduce the number of clicks to get to that title letters index?

Or am I better off to install Classic Start Menu, once it is working for Windows 10?

    :)

NOKIA LUMIA 800 - CALLS GO STRAIGHT TO ANSWER PHONE

All outside calls, be it from a fixed or a mobile phone are received by my Nokia Lumia but go straight to automatic answerphone. No possibility of catching the call before it does that. This did not happen until I changed the SIM card which also implicated
a change of operator. Any ideas please?

Install classic shell now. It works with windows 10. I find it riciculous that you can't customize really the left part of the start menu

  5. Well, I found SyMenu at Home of SyMenu. It lives beside the Windows Start Menu instead of replacing it, but has most of the features that are needed to from the classic sorts of Start Menu, and decided to use that instead. It may even be sufficient to also replace Free Launch Bar • Free replacement for standard Quick Launch, another utility I'd been using since leaving XP behind.

Classic Shell didn't migrate successfully during the Win10 upgrade. FreeLaunchBar did survive. Looks like SyMenu also would, since it is a portable program. With Win10 subject to changing stuff from time to time, things that are not incestuously tweaking Windows will likely cause fewer future problems.

  6. SyMenu is horribly old school XP to my eyes. (And I loved XP and used it until 3 years ago). What we really need is a modern Start Menu customisation app. Hopefully, as W10 comes of age such an app will be written. (The Windows 10 Manager app doesn't really customise W10 much beyond what you can do if you take the time to explore the settings in W10.)

  7. "horribly old school XP" is exactly what I was looking for when using Classic Shell on Win7; "horribly old school XP" is exactly what I was looking for when also using FreeLaunchBar on Win7. ClassicShell and FreeLaunchBar filled the gaps. But now that I've found SyMenu, being completely independent of Windows internals, I prefer it over ClassicShell because (1) it is less likely to affected by future Windows enhancements, (2) not tweaking Windows means that there is less uncertainty that problems encountered might be due to Windows tweaks, since it isn't tweaked -- for example, when attempting to launch a program and having a multi-second delay before it launches, which occurred in Win7 with Classic Shell just often enough to be annoying, but not often enough to debug, (3) extends the "horribly old school XP" menu ability to work extremely well on a shared Dropbox folder, for collaborating with other people on projects (which I do lots of), which no integrated-with-Windows-Desktop solution is likely to achieve, since it needs to come and go with the Dropbox share.

That said, there are several dimensions in which SyMenu, or something like it, could be improved. The "horribly old school XP" menu style is not "finger-friendly", so supporting taller menu entries could be useful for some uses. Supporting multi-column menus could be useful. Supporting a row or grid of icons or tiles as an augmentation or alternative to a vertical list of text could be useful.

But now that I've found SyMenu and its portability, portability/Dropbox-support has become a key requirement to any menu system in my future.
