Google Chrome Likely to Dethrone Internet Explorer

Chrome is my preferred browser for everyday use. I also have Firefox setup in several different ways under SBIE for specific purposes. Both browsers have a vast selection of extensions and I have a few that I rely on. There are still websites that only work on IE, but they are becoming few and far between.

unless it was pre arranged or understood to leave a new Windows install with only the MS browsers. *really

The less known browsers are all lacking something that's probably why they are not widely used .*really

The experienced users will configure and choose all that anyway so I leave that all to them unless they want me to configure the browsers to thier preference and or what they use .

Aside from that I like to ask the less experienced folks what browsers they use and which is the default. (some of them don't know what a default browser is and some of them think a web browser is Windows ) and would be better off with a mobile ,tardpad or Chromebook anyway☻*sarc

For less experienced folks I always reccomend Chrome as a default and mention it can be a memory hog but each browser tab is a separate process so if one tab crashes the other open tabs usually do not and that can be a significant productivity benefit and that it's plenty fast and decently secure .

I mention Firefox is my by splitting hairs next choice and it's fine as a default or alternative browser and I would have it either way on a PC and it's on mine also .

I mention Edge still has some instabilities freezing and random crashes but will play and load some videos well the other browsers wont load or play well and that it's the one for 1080p Netflix on a PC and that IE is on the way out and I wouldn't be to concerned about it and it never was any good anyway.*really

Again I briefly try to explain the features and benefits of the major browsers to the less experienced users and that they can choose any default browser or change it any time.

Keep in mind I only do this for family and friends and small business owner family and friend things now and then it's not my day job and never was but my first build was a maybe 486 DX66 when they were new followed by serial upgrades and new builds, overclocking and game builds so I been around these things a good while and inside them and still roll my own upgrades and I used a lot of real computers at work for decades .

Again the experienced & expert level users are going to make thier own choices even outside the four browsers I mentioned here for any number of legitimate reasons and I don't want to make an argument about all that

What if that's not causing any issues?? Shouldn't your "customers" have a choice of what browser the use and not you??

I would think that the majority of users wouldn't know how to install a third party browser or care to. IE is there and why should the bother??

I have used Chrome since its inception. I love it. I even have Cortana set to search with Google using Chrometana. I never did care for FF all that much even though I have used it. It just isn't all that intuitive, especially when it comes to downloads. *Sad I have also had problems in the past with it crashing, and it is difficult to get some things installed on it. I will definitely give Edge a try when it can handle extensions as it is a very very fast browser.

As someone who has used Firefox since they stopped releasing Netscape I have to ask out of curiosity. What was hard to install in Firefox and what isn't intuitive with downloading in Firefox? I have had Firefox crash on occasion. I have also had crashes with IE and Edge.

@ blutos cousin, IMHO I think the average user who knows little to nothing about computers are going to use whatever came as the default browser. That is unless someone else helps them.

I do not like FF at all, but I will always keep the browser a customer prefers.

I agree.. he's assuming that the average user would know how to install third party software.. that's not likely in most cases. Nor should they have to.

It always seemed to want a plugin or something. I haven't used it in a while. I remember after install the first thing it would do was crash. Downloading something in Chrome is so easy. You just download, and it appears at the bottom of the browser. You can choose to do whatever with it. In FF it is hidden at the top somewhere. I always have a difficult time finding it, and the options are not good. Chrome is also much quicker, and its UI is nice to the eyes.

This is true. IE and Edge are good browsers and for someone who doesn't know a lot about computers they are perfect.

The way I look at it is when I get Erin a laptop I would have to give here some lessons on how to use it and I would have to install a third party browser. She would have no idea on how to get this done,

I think the main reason I like Firefox and Pale Moon is because they are as close to Netscape as you can get. If you ever decide to try Firefox again the default location for downloads is in your user Downloads folder.
