Windows 10: Google launches new website for COVID-19 information and resources

Since the beginning of the year, search interest in COVID-19 has continued to climb around the world. Right now the disease is the largest topic people are looking for globally, surpassing even some of the most common and consistent queries we see in Search.

As this public health crisis has evolved into a pandemic, information needs are continuing to change, differing from region to region. When COVID-19 was declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO) in late January, we launched an SOS Alert with resources and safety information from the WHO, along with the latest news. The alert has launched in 25 languages across dozens of countries, and people in more than 50 countries can access localized public health guidance from health authorities.

Expanding our COVID-19 Search experience

Now, as we continue to see peopleâs information needs expanding, weâre introducing a more comprehensive experience for COVID-19 in Search, providing easy access to authoritative information from health authorities alongside new data and visualizations. This new format organizes the search results page to help people easily navigate information and resources, and it will also make it possible to add more information over time as it becomes available.

In addition to links to helpful resources from national and local health authorities, people will also find a carousel of Twitter accounts from local civic organizations and health authorities to help connect them with the latest local guidance as itâs shared. Weâve also introduced a feature to surface some of the most common questions about the pandemic, with relevant snippets sourced from the WHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

To help people track the latest information about the spread of the disease, weâre adding modules with statistics and a map showing COVID-19 prevalence in countries around the world. This new COVID-19 experience on Search will roll out in the coming days in English in the U.S., and we plan to add more information and expand to other languages and countries soon.

A website dedicated to help and resources

In addition to launching new features on Google Search that provide easy access to more authoritative information, weâve worked with relevant agencies and authorities to roll out a websiteâavailable at google.com/covid19âfocused on education, prevention and local resources. People can find state-based information, safety and prevention tips, search trends related to COVID-19, and further resources for individuals, educators and businesses. Launching today in the U.S., the site will be available in more languages and countries in the coming days and weâll update the website as more resources become available. Along with our other products and initiatives, we hope these resources will help people find answers to the questions theyâre asking and get the help they need.

Guidance around local health services

Weâre also looking for more ways we can help people follow authoritative public health guidance and locate appropriate health services through our products. Right now in the U.S., people seeking out urgent care, hospitals and other medical services in Search or Maps will see an alert reminding them of the CDCâs recommendation that symptomatic individuals call ahead in order to avoid overwhelming health systems and increasing the risk of exposure.

As coronavirus becomes a challenge in more communities and as authorities around the world develop new guidance and tools to address the pandemic, weâll continue to find more opportunities to connect people with key information to keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe.

E3 2020 cancelled due to growing concerns over COVID-19 Corona Virus

WASHINGTON – MARCH 11, 2020 – After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.

Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.

We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3expo.com.

We already know how flexible Android is, mainly because the base platform is open source. This means it can be adapted for a wide number of different use cases and one of those is how Android is used in businesses. Not many people understand the type of impact Android can have in the enterprise, and this is why Google has decided to launch its new Android Enterprise website. It can be found at enterprise.google.com/android, and it showcases how Android can be used in the work environment.

Google has been working to get Android used in more companies with its Android for Work solution. This has been enhanced and improved over time, but Google has been working to improve Android even more for enterprise use. Along with highlighting this solution, the new Android Enterprise website also mentions devices that are built for specific purpose within company use case scenarios. They feature a couple of tablets (like the Pixel C), but also talk about how the Symbol Zebra TC75, Honewell CT50, and the CAT S60 can be used in the field.

Google then goes onto talk about specific areas where Android is currently being used, and the benefits that it has. The three areas they highlight are Retail, Healthcare and Manufacturing. For retail, Android can provide PoS systems, interactive catalogs, and proximity-based beacons for delivering relevant information or even personalized content. In Healthcare, patients can use Android to check-in and learn about procedures and post-surgery care, while clinicians can use Android for on-campus communications, scanning supplies and accessing other applications.

Manufacturing is full of purpose-built products and Android has been known to enhance this as well. Google talks about manufacturers using Android to optimize workflow, gather immediate information from the production floor, and create an agile work environment that enables informed, real-time decision making.
They feel Android can save a manufacturer money by using phones, tablets, customized devices and sensors to extract and analyze a ton of data.
